Not sure if there is a better place for this, but figured what could be better then the corrosive shooters? Has anyone tried spray nine to clean these or is that a no no? Will it wreck anything? I just got back from the range with an SKS a few hours ago, did the soapy water cleaning followed by solvent clean and before oiling her up noticed in the corner of my eye a bottle of spray nine. I thought "with the crud that lifts how well does it work on guns?". I then proceeded to run the cleaning routine with spray nine and for the love of God, the crud that it lifted from the action and parts is UNREAL. NO solvent has ever lifted fouling that well that i have seen. Now I want to do the same to the barrel but am afraid I might wreck something, thought it best to ask before proceeding.

i am sure it would be fine, some other solvents are very corrosive and say to not let it sit longer then a couple of min. Spray it and clean it right away, then lube it up well after. If it works let me know then I will do the same on one of my cz's

Delta, I mean after the hot soapy water. trust me, it works, seen no negative side effects. Question is, you want clean, or you want sparkly clean? Stick with your hot water if that's good enough for you :p

I use Simple Green to clean my SKS (and everything else in the safe) with no ill effects. I find it actually cleans up stuff the Solvent missed. Down the barrel and everything. Fresh coat of oil and your good to go.

It's like Spray 9 Only biodegradable...

I tried something new last time. I started off with boiling water down the barrel, that tore it all apart and used CLR on it. Then rinsed and thoroughly dried, and oiled it all up. Worked pretty good, though it's ridiculously labour intensive. I'll stick to spraying it down with gun or carb cleaner

Has anyone heard of using an amonia based cleaning product like windex after running corrosive ammo down the barrel?

Windex was recommended in this Thread of mine for cleaning the Gas Tube and Piston, but that's the only time I've heard of it.

Hot Water, Simple Green, Boar Brush, Hot Water, Towel Dry the outside, let it air dry, oil inside and out. Seems to work well for me.

For a water based cleaner, simple green is the best I have found. It uses Butyl Cellosolve as the solvent, the same as wipeout bore cleaner. Also works well in ultrasonic cleaners.

I may try a little test with spray nine.

I shoot Windex down the bore before I leave my shooting spot. Later on I will clean the gun, and the final bore treatment is WD-40 followed by the boresnake. WD-40 isn't a great gun lube, but it displaces water, which is handy if you're using water to clean.
