Thought I'd share, tagged out on 200lb meat bear, 300 yard shot, bear dropped on the spot. Double shoulder shot with my brno 8x68s at 2820 fps, found the 224gr RWS cone point bullet on the off side. Recovered weight 134gr, so 60% weight retention. Bullet in my opinion is on the softer side, will get around this summer to load the 220gr Sierra gameking, woodleigh, or a 200gr nosler accubond.

One more tag to go.

Looking forward for some good sausage and hamburger.

Good stuff, Daniel... I used a couple different rigs for bears this year, I took the first one with my Ruger M77 Mark II Carbine .458 Win Mag using the Barnes Original 400 grain SSP... I have been carrying this rifle throughout the spring bear guide season, but it was never called into service, which is the way I like it.

The second one, I took with a Ruger M77 Mark II Carbine that I just put together in .350 Rem Mag using 250 grain Partitions.

The .458 WM bear was taken through the shoulders and went straight down and rolled over. The .350 RM bear was shot through the top of the heart and ran about 100 yards, unfortunately, up a ridge and through a whack of blowdowns... was covered in sweat by the time I got him to the boat. I'm all set for bear sausage for the year. The long wait to the fall hunting is on... guess I will have to get the walleye rods out and blow off the dust.

The 8x68 is a fantastic cartridge. I had a lovely Mannlicher-Schoenauer Model GK, with double set triggers and a rail mount QR. Diavari/Hendsolt 1.5-6X scope.

The rifle and cartridge combination were not only very accurate, but that action was as smooth as oiled glass.

The only drawback on the system was the "narrow butt" It was tall enough, but so narrow and it beat me up every time I shot it. So I sold it, and never missed it. When it hurts to shoot, not much fun and the flinch developed wasn't appreciated either.

Your load, at 2600 fps is stout and the butt cross section on your rifle is much better than on the MS.

I know they're expensive but you may want to look at Norma Oryx, they're round nose only in 196 grain weights for the 8mm at the top, but at the ranges your shooting, I don't think there will be much real difference in drop or retained velocities.

My load for the 196gr Oryx, was also stout, why not, why go to a magnum case and not utilize the opportunities it presents?

I used 72.0 grains of H4831, there weren't any "short" versions of this powder back then, over Winchester LRM primers, under 196 grain Oryx round nose bullets, for appx 2800fps. I didn't have any devices to measure velocities in those days so calculated by shooting a 200 yd zero and measuring bullet drop at 300 yds and 400 yds.

You don't mention the range you shot that bear at, or I didn't see it, but I agree with DFarmer, that bullet performed very well if the bear was closer than 150 yds, especially after penetrating the heavy bones in two shoulders.

Based on the express sights I would suggest its a ZKK 602; OP may confirm.

FWIW my 8x68s ZKK is a 602; it is a pretty smooth action and they do seem to get ‘slicker’ with use.
