After seeing this section I remembered an old air rifle sitting at my parent's that hasn't worked in years. I've decided to bring it home to check it out. I did some searching for spring compressors and am planning to build one. It seems simple enough but was wondering how long of a stroke it should have.
Anyone have some advice?

The gun is that it was a christmas present to me & a brother over 30 years ago. All I remember for sure is it's .177 and I think from a czech manufacturer. I'll pick it up on the weekend and will probably be able to figure it out when I see it. I was thinking there may be a max lenght I could expect for the threaded rod.

I just took apart a Slavia 620 and didn't need a compressor. Just had to push hard and start the threads. If it's over 500 fps though, you probably will need more than muscles.

Probably has a leather seal that may have shrunk by now.Soak it in neat's Foot Oil and it will expand to it's original size.I think they are riveted to the piston.I just rebuilt my childhood Hungarian .177 and it's like new now power wise.Harold

I just got home from picking it up and as luck would have it, it is in very rough shape. For some reason, I expected it to be is some semblance of what it was when I stopped using it. I vividly remember putting it back in it's original box in good condition when I graduated to a rimfire. It seems my nefews were alot less dilligent in looking after it. Hopefully I haven't bitten off more than I can handle as it needs alot of attention.

It's Slavia 620 and upon stripping it down, it needs a seal kit as well as alot of other repairs. It isn't a leather seal. No luck on the google search finding the kit for the 620. Anyone know a source?
