Anyone seen a spring guide insert that would eliminate the twisting of the bolt return spring? I know on my M-14 I put in a Rooster 33 NM spring guide right off to keep the Op Rod spring from twisting, but today, having shot my SKS for the first time in a while, stripped it apart to clean it and saw the crazy twisting in the spring, as well as interesting wear marks on the inside of the receiver cover. Or is this just not an issue for the SKS?

Twisty part of the spring goes inside the bolt carrier...or it can hang-up on the inside of the receiver...ie hide the messy part. :D

if they had a spring guide upgrade for sks's they probably would make the action alot smoother but....i dont know of a company that sells something like that for an sks.

Yeah, turns out I wasn't paying attention. I haven't shot my SKS in a couple years so hadn't had it apart. I stripped my buddy's down to clean it for him and realized that the twisty part goes in the bolt carrier. Pulled mine back down and swapped it around. So technically it has a nice spring guide in the part that sits outside the bolt.

Just goes to show, its important to pay attention no matter how many years you've been doing stuff.

Ivan beat you to it back in the early 50's...
The bolt carrier is the spring guide. :D
