I was lucky and drew a turkey tag for the spring of this yr in Alberta ,it has taken 11 yrs. I would really like to fill it as it will be the only tag I will probably draw considering the amount of time needed and my age (59),and the season is for only 1 mth (May)
I have one lead from a good friend of a friend who has a few hanging around his place and was kind enough to offer us permission and give it a go on his land.
,im looking for another place ,a back up so to speak to hunt a couple of times this spring ,i have been out driving to the properties asking very nicely for permission , if you are familiar with these areas you will no its almost imposable to get permission i say almost.
So i have lived in Alberta all my life, i been hunting for (40+) yrs , i am looking for a chance at accessing some property to filling this tag , in great shape for my age , , i can provide references also
I am trying this along with going door to door farm from farm .I must add am also a bow hunter
Thanks for the time and space for allowing me to post this here , if there is someone that has a place or knows some one who is open to this or some other ideas please pm me ,much appreciated.
thanks every one for the replys

If you go south of Longveiw into the Porcupine hills its public land and during spring bear season they are always around also. Now if you actually hunt them its probably another question but they are there.

Lots of crown land in the Porkies and plenty of turkeys. Start spotting early. Look for big trees on the edges of fields or large meadows. Best is if you can spot them in the evenings and put them to bed. Stay with a group until the roost then set up on them well before daylight. Set out a couple decoys and be subtle with a squeaker or scratch box. Sit still, be quiet, and be patient.

You could just ask the guys on Alberta Outdoorsmen, but they'd tell you to get out and do the legwork. Further more, you are offering a consideration for the ability to hunt, illegal.

You're off to a good start. Better get out the regs and study them carefully. :(

I would head over to the Porcupines if I was looking for Turkeys in Alberta.
I remember a few years ago I was bow hunting in September down there and was driving back to camp around noon and just as I got close I spotted a huge flock/herd of turkeys milling around the road! Never seen that many birds together before or since.
Good luck hunting!

Join AO, there is a member on there who lives for turkey hunting and has offered to help guys out. He also has all the gear, and permissions in place. Hell of a nice guy.
