Hi,
I have a hard time to unscrew "sewer pipe" barrel from decent Springfield mod 1903A3 receiver.
Even after using super HD Barrel vise and solid HT 4340 internal action wrench (Hell, I am making them myself in limited numbers) in exces 300f/lbs of torque that barrel won't budge. I never ever had that kind of force used before....
What kind of gorilla had this in his hands?
Are those barrels have left hand tenon threads by any chance?
I still can undercut barrel shoulder but won't use the torch on the receiver.
Advice from anyone?

No, the Springfield is a normal right hand thread, have had the same problem with them and P14s and P17s. I don't think I have ever been able to take one apart without cutting the barrel at the shoulder and relieving the stress. I'm sure they were all put on by machine with high torque and speed...........I don't remember about the 03A3, but the P14 and P17s have square cut threads, it seems to me the Springfields do too and they are always impossible to get to break without the shoulder cut.

If I remember right they are square cut threads like the p-14 and M-17 and they are always tight. I have never needed to cut to relieve pressure. I have to put pressure on the action wrench and then give it a whack with a heavy hammer or weight to give it a snapping motion. Springfields with early serial numbers are also garbage because they were hardened by heating them to the right looking temperature by eye. When the sun was shining in the window of the factory they were heated a lot hotter to look orange than when the sun was down and it was dark in the factory. If you do a search you will find all the info on the google. I can't remember but I think all recievers with serial numbers under 14?,000 are not safe to use.

It is an 03A3, so the receiver heat treatment is not an issue.
If the barrel is pooched, cut the relief groove to release some torque. Can be done with a hacksaw or on the lathe.

Good advice. I've never had a M1903 or 03A3 where I couldn't remove the barrel using a proper action wrench and barrel vise. The 03A3 action features a forward guard screw which is drilled right through. This allows you to put a penetrating oil, like Kroil, down the guard screw hole so that it will flood the barrel/receiver threads and make it easier to get off. The M1903 actions have a blind guard screw hole so this won't work on them.

I have used this method with great success on a Ross mk3 that had a stuck barrel. I cut a very thin relief in the barrel a couple of thousands from the receiver on my lathe and the the barrel came off with little force.

Thank you all for advice.
I had a little time today and after cutting relief groove in front of the flange removing the barrel after was a child's play....
BTW the tennon is 1,060" dia and thread is square 10TPI
