Springfield Armory M1 Garand Questions

Hello there,

I was looking at how Springfield Armory makes brand new models of the M1 Garand rifle. I think it would be something awesome to own, fun to shoot and the history that goes along with it.

In your opinion, is it worth the price? Or would one be better off getting an older used military surplus one if it's only going to be used for range shooting? (or maybe actual military models are even more expensive due to the collector value?).

I'm finally moving out and plan to get my firearms license and I'd like to ultimately own one of each of the main WWII rifles - K98, M1 Garand, Lee-Enfield, and Mosin Nagant. Is it realistic to be able to find good quality models of these without spending a fortune?

You would be better off with a used Milsurp . The New SA incs are built on a cast receiver and run around $1100 U.S. here in the states .
I think that you could buy a used one even with a shot out barrel have it replaced by a gunsmith, replace all the wood and still come out less . There is not alot of "History" to a new manufacture commercial cast reproduction . But then again I have a few of their commercial cast M1a's .

I agree with mikebaker1129 about getting a used M1 Garand. I bought 3 this year, of which 2 from fellow CGN member. I have Springfield, International Harvester, and a Breda, each with their own character, but all good shooters and I think as accurate as the new models (although I have not shot a new model)

Expect to pay in the range of minimum $600 to $800, depending on condition, and what accessories come with it. You would save on taxes and pay about $30 for shipping (they are heavy) On CGN, you will usually get great and accurate photos and description. I would not worry about the wood as long as the condition is such that you can clean, sand and final finish without too much hassle. Good luck. I would take another Garand over a norinco, that's just me.

I recently bought a polish mosin carbine, great shape like new, great price from CGN. The webs I have research says great things about the polish model and I was not disappointed.
 
"...without spending a fortune?..." A lot depends on how big your fortune is. An SA Inc. M1 is an expensive copy and has no history. Nor will it increase in value as fast as a real one. If you opt for one, you may have trouble finding one at any price.
A real M1 in decent condition isn't much easier to find(likely easier than an SA Inc rifle though) and the condition of the rifle varies a great deal. I've seen really beat up rifles at gun shows running nearly $800. The guy lugged them back and forth a lot though.

I have not yet met a firearm that was NOT fun to shoot :D

IMHO, no. I'm too happy with the WWII Garand I ended up buying to consider a modern copy. Which will be more expensive than a real Garand with history, by the way. My WWII is in amazing shape and is dead on. And it has soul, modern copies are soulless :D

Like everything else in this world, if you want "good quality", you'll have to pay for it. But that doesn't mean you won't stumble onto amazing deals.
 
springfield makes the receivers, buys the wood and uses new and surplus parts to build the guns. you can buy a m1 receiver and do the same thing.
