Springfield Armory M1A 5 rnd magazine

Hi all,

Looking for some info/insight. Hoping to find some.

Does anyone have a Springfield Armory 5 round magazine for the M1A (part number MA5018)?

It's supposed to be dimensionally the same as the 10 round magazine, but limited to 5. I need to know how it is limited to 5 rounds: whether it is permanently physically restricted (eg. with a permanent block on the floor plate), or if it has a detachable blocking mechanism.

If anyone can shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it.

I've got a Springfield 5/10, they block the mag by "dimpling" the back of it, below the lug that catches the release. If only I knew how to post a pic with my iPhone!

When I got my Springfield M1A, it came with a 10 rounder that was blocked to 5 rounds. I opened up the mag and it was a black piece of wood that was used to pin it to 5 !
There was a tiny hole drilled into the wood for the spring to sit in. I thought for sure that this was not kocher, so I checked into it and e-mailed a few RCMP Firearms officers in Ottawa and Saskatchewan and they were like, meh! just don't remove the wood block and it is legal.....
