Been eying the SA M1A for a while. I just wanted to make sure If I got my restricted/non-restricted stuff right.

Are all SA M1A variants except the standard. (Scout Squad, SOCOM 16, SOCOM II) are restricted?
and can only be used in a indoor/outdoor range?

Or just being center-fired semi auto makes them all restricted?

I wanted to make sure because there is a chance I will be using it for hunting as well.

The socom is restricted because the barrel is less then 18.5 inches. The others are non-restricted.

The scout squads are 18 as well, making them restricted

I prefer the long barrel myself. I don't think of it as a carbine but others like their shorties.

yup scout is restricted, there are kreiger 18.5'' barrels out there...and the newly imported m14 shorty witht he 18.5'' barrel.....I would love to own a socom with the 16'' barrel...It would make an excellent hunting rifle...Maybe the new long gun laws will bring the barrel length limit down to 16'' to shadow american laws...one can hope

All the SAI 22" variants are non-restricted.
Standard: standard contour.
Loaded: medium contour.
Super match and other super expensive variants: heavy contour.
