Anybody got one of these? I'm sitting here waiting for my restricted to come in (the cfc website listed it as on it's way over a week ago). I want a 1911 .45acp and I don't have a lot of cash ($700.00 total). I have fondled the norincos and although I own two norcs already and have been pleased with the reliability and function despite the fit and finish of those their 1911s just don't impress me. I have seen the parkerized 5" version

It seems to be well built and has that classic ww2 look. Wild west has them for $650.00. Is this a good deal? How well do they function. Like all the other guns I won I plan to shoot very often, are these going to hold up? What are my other options in this price range?

I have a parkerized Loaded 1911 in .45 and I just absolutely love it. I know many Springer owners with 10,000 rds through their Gov't 1911's without any troubles and they just love them, too.

I know of a buddy with a Milspec parkerized .45 and he's very happy with it. Yup, we've had super good fortune with our .45's. So, yes, these babies will hold up.

Personally I'm not a GI type of Springer guy, since the little sights just don't do it for me. I like higher vis sights. Did you happen to see if this Springer fits YOUR hand well ?

Cheers,
Barney

The G.I single stack feels good in the hand. The other guns I fondled were the rinco 1911C, the para pxt double stack, the kimber custom II, and a charles daly. I don't like the double stacks and I really like the full size springfield but just plain don't have the money. I shot a sti trojan at wild west and liked how it handled but It wasn't really reliable. In about 100 rounds it lost it's front sight and the slide wouldn't stay locked back when inserting the mag. I specifically went to wild west to shoot a number of hand guns to get a feel for what I really want. I absolutely hated the 9mm beretta, I don't like the trigger pull on the 40 cal glock, the revolvers were fun but not for me. The .45 seemed to have the best of both worlds, power and capacity. I could easily shoot one or two handed and the trojan was very accurate. I also put my hands on almost everything that was in the gun case at wild west, milarm, p&d, tse, and bashaw sports. Like I said the G.I. .45 seems the best value for me. I hope this info helps you help me finalize my decision,

I have a GI .45. It's mediocre. Save a little extra money and get the mil-spec. If you bought a GI .45 and tried to upgrade the little deficiencies in it, you'd end up with a mil-spec anyway.

The Springfield G.I. .45 Auto kicks ass.

I personally own the Springfield M1911-A1 "Loaded" .45 Auto in a hi-polished stainless-steel finish and Novak sights with a houge rubber grip.

Then I bought two extra magazines which are the best....ChipMcCornmick POWER 10's...........along with the two factory 7-shot stainless mags.

But I much perfer the 10-shot (single-stack) POWER 10's amazingly reliable...and like it goes 10's better than 7.............or 11's bettel than 8.

But if you dont go with the "Loaded" model ($1,300.00/roughly) you will still love the G.I. .45 or Mil-spec.

Bottom line.......Springfield rocks, well built, flawless operation, and said by many the most accurate .45 out of the box.....and I can vouch for that.

What exactly are the differences?
Are those grips on the GI plastic?

The sights are a bit small, the grips are wood, but you'll do much better with a Pachmayr grip and the ejection port on the GI .45 is a bit small, so it dings up the brass a bit and it's not as easy to clean inside the slide as it is with a larger ejection port.

I bought one of these when they first came out in the late '70's or early 80's (I forget which). I have an old Remington Rand GI 1911A1 and the Springfield is the closest thing to it I have yet seen, right down to the hammer bite. The Springfield is an extremely well-made reliable handgun. Accuracy is just so-so, but then it's a G.I. copy and mimics the original's loose tolerances.

Having said that, if you decide to buy a Springfield get what you want on the gun from Springfield on the front end. Springfield uses dimensions on some of their small parts that differ slightly from G.I. specs. Aftermarket parts like extended safetys, skeleton hammers, sears, etc., may not fit properly in a Springfield. For example, a few years ago I installed a Chip McCormick sear and hammer in my Springfield. It tied the gun up completely, although the parts worked fine in every other brand 1911 I tried them in. Friends I know have had similar interference problems with small parts on other Springfield 1911's, particularly when it comes to the safety. Just something to be aware of.

I agree with previous posters who recommend the Mil-Spec as the preferred model. The sights are better, the ejection port is enlarged, and it's also available in stainless (if you prefer that to the Parkered gun).

I had the exact same thing as that one, except mine was in OD Green. I would agree to go to the next step up with a few more accessories. The sights leave a bit to be desired on them, they are just plain iron sights and I added an aluminum trigger on mine as well. Other than that, it worked very well. No jams, always cycled, etc.

well my freshly minted restricted licence is staring me in the face. Its fresh from the envelope I found when I got home today. I've already browsed over the pistol exchange looking for a deal. I opened up a new netscape window for the norinco and springfield and even the lowly ruger p90 in .45acp. These are my options for my budget price range. I'm leaning towards the norinco 1911 commander even with its crappy sights and grips and fit and finish. At least at $350 I can replace the grips and sights. On the other hand the springfield still has better finsh quality. And for some reason the ruger which I have looked at multiple times without interest has got my attention. I am going to lose sleep over this one. I am so indecisive.

Well I made up my mind and went out and bought the norc. I found a decent looking one from Bashaw sports. I really like dealing with Pud. I've dealt with him twice before on rifles and he is nothing but honest and fair. He told me all I needed to hear and even offered to try and scrounge up some walnut grips for it. He helped me through my first transfer with ease. I can't wait to take it home.

I shot a G.I pretty nice gun but I think I would just spend like the extra $300 and get one with more features cause I would have to Adjust that trigger on the G.I if I ever bought one
