Springfield M1A synthetic: Will it fit Nornico?

Hi guys, quick question:

I often see Springfield M1A synthetic stocks for sale, but I cannot tell if they are the same or different than the USGI M14 stocks. Are they made by springfield, and do they fit the same as USGI, or do they need to be tweaked and built up (or carved up) to some extent?

Has anyone fit a Springfield M1A stock to a Norinco?

Area around where the connector cutout would be on a USGI stock will also need some work....the springfield op rod guide pin is longer than that found on the Norinco. Without the mod the pin will walk out under recoil; when this happens feeding and magazine retention becomes VERY problematic.

Is this unique to the Springfield stocks, or all USGI stocks? I see in SKBYs mod thread that one must not only fill in the selector cut out, but also build up another area of the stock. Is this the same mod, or is the Springfield mod different. Sorry guys, I cannot descirbe this issue better as I am a new owner and it is enroute to me in the mail.

it happens to ALL usgi/mia stocks - you need to to the "popsicle mod" regardless of where you get the stock from- just in front of the mag well- skullboys sticky has this well documented- and it is THE DIFFERENCE IN THE LENGTH OF THE OP ROD GUIDE PIN- when it starts to walk, you'll get ftfs, and all kinds of wierd behaviour, if the pin doesn't drop out altogether - and no, subbing a usgi pin in there right away isn't an option- they're DIFFERENT diameters and lengths- you have to machine one to fit the other- which way i don't know, but i understand it's a lot of work
 
so basically the exact same mod for both stocks. I wonder if the springfield stocks are new, or are they just re-worked USGI stocks?

easy enough to tell - just look for the selector hole- if it looks like it's been filled in it's a usgi- if it's all one colour - it's m1a-unless it's a repaint with the work already done-since you've already bought it and it's enroute, you're complaining after the fact if it isn't - post pics when you get it and someone here will tell you

I haven't bought it, I have bought the rifle, m305, which is enroute. Terms such as op rod and selector cut are just abstractions for me, things I have seen on the net but not held in my hands. I am only guessing from schematics how this will all fit together. Not sure what you are referring to regarding me complaining after the fact.
 
Buy USGI if you can, the civilian Springfield M1A stocks had this black krinkle type finish on them that used to flake off on a regular basis. I had one and hated it. I don't know if they've corrected this problem with their new stuff, but it wouldn't hurt to make sure before you buy.
 
works great, really tight fitting and great looking stocks. do the pin mod for sure tho. heres mine

look at your last line- it sounds like you've bought the stock and it is enroute to you in the mail

Gotcha, just not sure where you thought I was complaining, but to each his own.
