A friend of mine has his dads springfield m840 30-30 bolt action rifle. I can't seem to find any info on this rifle can anyone shed some light on this?? It hasn't even had 20 rounds fired out of it. He still has the 2 boxes of ammo his dad bought with it 4.00 a box and 3 rounds were gone Thanx

It is a version of the Savage/Stevens 340 series of rifles. Even though these were intended to be economy rifles, they generally shoot very well. Brownells has extra magazines for them. The rifle was designed by Brewer, who also did the first version of the Savage 110.
