I have problem with my Springfield XD9. I disassembled the gun i.e. moved the complete slide assembly forward and off the frame. Then I removed the recoil spring assembly from the slide and removed the barrel.

When I reassembled the gun to the point where I drew back the slide to the rear stop position and lowered the disassembly lever to the horizontal position the gun slide moved forward as usual and then got stuck. I cannot move it or force it back to the full rear stop position to free it.

Everything is very tight, I cannot even jiggle the barrel, usually when the slide is back it is pretty loose, but right now will not move at all.

To describe how far the slide will go back, it pulls back about 3mm short of being able to engage the slide stop, and goes forward about 1 inch from the slide stop, that still leaves about 1 inch of the barrel protruding from the front of the slide.

So currently I am unable to take the slide off the gun.

I have disassembled and reassembled this gun at least 100 times and this is the first time I encountered this problem. I am at lost and any help would be appreciated.

the guide rod is out of alignment, or the spring is bunched up, or the barrel is not aligned, any of these things will cause this type of jam, it has happened to me on my
XD45, and it's a pain to have it released. Usually there is no easy way to undue this, but force, and sometimes lots of it.

there are some youtube video's on this, and how to try to have it released

worse case is it will have to go to a gun smith to have it fixed

seems you might be in Hazel's neck of the woods, if you need some help, I can try send me a pm if you wish

good luck

Thank you, I will have to look around to see if I can find something on youtube

I found some information on XD talk that I am going to try first before attempting brute force

Again thank you for your help

This was the only youtube vid that I found

I don't like his way, but it will do it.

the other option is call Springfield and see if they have a better solution

I got lucky I just wiggled and pushed and pulled and it finally released

FIXED

what I did was put the guide rod in a clamp, then pulled back hard on the gun, this pulled the guide rod about half an inch out and that freed everything up, then pulled the trigger and the slide came right off

Thank you again for your help

Good going, glad you got it fixed.....

did you get yourself a stainless steel guide rod - Don's XD Service Guide Rod 9mm

I did get one for my XD45, it's very nice and with the added weight it's much better..
