Hi,

What is more exciting than receiving a nice package from Wolf supply? Knowing that there is a brand new handgun in there…

It’s exactly what was waiting for me yesterday night. I ordered a Springfield Armory XD9 Tactical last Monday, a week later it was at my door step.

So I ran to the range with it.

First of all, you have to know that I am a 1911 guys. I like heavy and really stiff gun, but I recently read way to much comment about the XD9 and decided to buy one.

My fist surprise was to see how stiff the gun is for a 700$ rig. It comes with two shinny stainless magazines, a holster, two mags pouches and a kind of speed loader (that I didn’t try yet).

The gun is light and feels real good in my hand. I handle a lot of gun, and for some reason I really like the XD9. It’s very well balanced and point naturally.

So it was BANG time. I placed the target at 7 yards for a little warm-up session. In a nice and steady pace I shot 5 rounds to the target. All 5 rounds where dead on center in a nice 1 inch group. My first reaction was surprise. The little gun shoot where it point. Period. The gun cycling is real smooth, it feels good and seems really accurate. I had really good result at 10 yard either. Next session I’ll push it a little …

I shot 100 rounds … absolutely no failure to feed … it went bang every time.

I just wanted to say that it is a really cheap handgun for what it is. It is WAY better than what I was expecting. I will not say it louder, but I would have pay a higher price for that gun. I really think that the reason of its low price is to flood the market and make it known.

A really good experience …a really good shooter. I’ll use it in IPSC without a doubt.

Ho and the field strip was joke ….

I fired the XD-40 numerous times at the range and liked the ergonomics and feel of the pistol. If you disect the pistol, you will see the following:
1. It has the trigger safety of a Glock.
2. Take-down lever of a Sig.
3. Grip safety similar to a 1911.
4. Ambi mag release,
5. Rail, chambered indicator, etc.

It appears that Springfield took the best of the best features from all firearms and incorporated them into a single pistol.

Only advice I can offer is that I would seriously consider buying a new holster such as a Blade-Tech for your XD. One of the shooters last week at our IDPA night had an XD40 and had difficulty unholstering the firearm. I made the assumption that it was an UM or BT, so grabbing my Philips screwdriver to loosen the contact points but realized that the supplied holster was riveted.

Nice pistol though...

Edward, where could I find the BlateTech in Canada. I tried 911supply but they don't have it in stock.

Just for your personnal information. The XD is not built by Springfield ...they import it from Croatia. But since they garantee it for life, they had to make sure that it was a reliable gun first!

Try TSE in Calgary (link above or PM 'redleg' or 'JR' on this site). If you like, I can check for you tomorrow night when I am at the TSE range.

If you are handy, you can try popping out the rivets and replace them with a comparable nut & bolt. Just countersink the inner-side of the holster for the nut setting and then you can have yourself an adjustable OEM XD holster. :D

Tool required--> try a Dremel tool with appropriate attachments.

Yeh, I was aware that the XDs were made someone in the Eastern European area but was not sure which country. Regardless, the XD was my first choice in a 9mm but I decided on the Sig P226. I will probably end up getting a XD in either the .40 or .45 ACP when available.

The new XD45 is available at Questar (with the new finish). A lot of people were waiting for them.

Bladetech is the only way to go. Just ordered three more the other day direct from the website.

That gal's holster was brand new so some draws out of it would loosen it up a bit. I believe it was a Fobus - she it out of the wrapper on the line lol.

Good shooting for a total beginner.

Three more Bladetechs? WTF...you are going to have more holsters than handguns especially if you sell the TRP!!! :D

Are you sure it was a Fobus? I thought she stated that it came with the XD package. But who am I to know...I was too busy setting up the CoF and you must have been giving her the extra attention. ;)

Mine too. The XD9 is tight and the recoil spring is pretty stiff right out of the box. Over all, I'm very impressed with the rig.

Mine did the same thing. But not at first. With 115gr, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Wouldn't group at all. Switched to 124gr and it was 1" group time!

Which really surprised me, because I'm a rifle guy and shoot pistol just for fun/plinking. This gun seems to shoot where I point, very instinctively. Its a keeper. Infact, I think a XD45ACP might just be in order. I may even collect the whole set.....

On my side, it was 143 gr Fiocchi ammo. I'll try other brands in the next weeks...

I've shot my XD9 out of a paddle fobus for more than a year now with very good results. Fast holster, good retention. I like being able to set the angle of draw.
