Just saw one for sale for 800$, compensated and scoped with 5 magazines. Since I am still in a nail biting stage - can someone tell me if this is a good buy? I just wanted to get my feet wet in IPSC. Have no funds for 3000-4000$ investment into real racing gun. Opinions please. Also would like to know if 40S&W is competitive cartridge at all for IPSC.

Depends on a few things. Is it .40 cal? I have never shot an Open gun in .40 but can't see why it wouldn't work, 9mm for that gun I think would be better. If you are going to shoot major PF the original short light slide really isn't up to the task- but that's my opinion. Find out what barrel is in it, and look at the locking lugs for extreme wear. If it is built properly, good optic on it, good mags, might be worth 800, but I would offer less. I would have to see it to comment more on it, I have a P9 that I have been shooting since 1993 and it is quite a piece of work, and it runs awesome. Do you have any digital pics of it?

Sounds like a good compromise gun. You likely won't be happy long term with it but for 800 bucks, it's a great way to get in.

P9 Shooter, how's your track record on broken trigger parts? P9's used to be known for busting trigger components.

If your just starting to get your feet wet in IPSC why not get into standard or production first

I gotta agree with JB. I've put together a rig using a Kimber Custom II, 5 mags, holster, belt, mag pouches, and magwell for $1250. In other words you could run a brand new gun and parts for the same cost as the used Racegun. I loved my P9, but to be honest you can't get a lot of the parts for them anymore, aside from what is common with the newer EAA/Tang. guns. You'd be better served getting your feet wet with a newer (stock) gun and save up for a new Tang. gun if you like the sport. If it turns out that it's not your thing, a stock gun can be used in quite a few other sports, but an IPSC Open gun is an IPSC open gun and only an IPSC Open gun. (yeah it could be used for steel or Bianchi Cup, but really if you are going to shoot open in those matches, you need a gun built for those matches)

i was interested in this to, if im shooting a stockish gun im using it for IDPA. but open guns always looked fun to shoot. but then if parts arent available ill wait for some free cash and a gun that i can get parts for

Open guns ARE fun to shoot but they don't do the shooting for you. Splits are faster but likely transitions, especially on full sils 10 yards and closer might actually be slower.

ALL divisions are good, find the one that you like (or ONES you like) with the people you like to compete against and enjoy the game.
