I'm wondering if anyone else hunts the Spruce Woods Provincial Park in MB? I have never hunted there, actually, but I've begun scouting. I did not come across very much deer sign, but I did find this nice skull.

Anyhow, I was a little surprised I did not find any elk sign. Are they found throughout the park, or just in one portion of the park?

Another hunter I talked to said he came across some cougar tracks. He walked past a deer trail with fresh tracks, then continued on. 30 mins later he crossed that same spot again, this time he saw fresh cougar tracks. He shared his findings with MB Conservation, and they told him earlier that 2 horses south of the park were attacked by a cougar, and 1 cougar was spotted earlier near the Devil's Punch Bowl.

I was disappointed by the lack of fresh sign, I was expecting more, especially since I walked through some really thick brush, deep into the woods. I figured the deer would hide away in these places, but it seems there is no more sign deep in the bush than anywhere else in the park, at least where I was scouting.

These maps show where I have scouted:

Any advice as to where I should look? I'm more than willing to walk long distances to get to my hunting area. It's such a large area, I really don't know where I should focus my attention. I'm hoping to get out again, possibly this week. I know one area in the southern part of the park that I'm going to look more at (Spruce Woods WMA).
