I suspect that trying to bed an Sps stock for a precision rifle is a wast of time and money. Has anyone had any sucess with this, or is a decent replasement stock the only real way to go? Thanks.

SPS bedding

I'm assuming the SPS is for a hunting gun ???
I got one of these for the action to build up something else. I decided to try a few rounds down it first before we dismantled it, it shot ok but after 4-5 shots the barrell was getting real uncomfortable to touch, waited 2 min. fired another 4-5 barrell was now HOT, waited 2 min. fired another 4-5 and you couldn't get your hand near the barrell with out the risk of losing skin.

As the barrell got warmer after the first 4-5 shots, you can see the bullet holes walking across and down the page shot by shot and getting further and further apart as the heat increases. I've seen the point of impact move before but never this bad.
Then again this is the thinnest, tiniest, barrell i've owned, some of my .22lr's are heavier.

Sorry to drag on but my origional point/idea was if its not a hunting gun and your gonna try to do target shooting, bedding is only one of your problems .
That barrell has to go too.

Barrell, trigger, and optics are on the way. The problem is that I shoot left handed. Do I try to make do with this stock for now, as no one wants to buy it anyway,or is there a reasonably priced ambi/left handed aftermarket stock?By reasonably priced I mean $500.
Thanks.
