Since I took off my rings for a friend to get his scope mounted on his FTR gun i need a new set of rings for my Schmidt PMII.

Been looking at Spuhr mounts as they are one piece , strong and not to heavy, have a built in level and nice scope leveling feature , but the options are numerous.

Do I just get a 0 cant base or go with a 20moa which would theoretically give me 45 moa as the top rail on the Coyote is already 25 moa, and the heights are 1.3" 1.5 and larger.

I want to mount the scope as low as possible.

Any help with the mount height would be awesome... Pictures would be pretty cool too just to get to see what it will look like on a Coyote or Timberwolf.

Thanks

Jeff

They are pricey. I went with a Near on mine.

I went for a 0 MOA Spuhr on my rifle since it is going on a 20 MOA base.

Go with the 20 MOA so you can have full travel of your scope....even if you shoot a 308....if your not concerned about the NV rail or have no intent on using it the 1.18" should be just fine if it's a 50mm objective, safe side would be 1.50" for 56mm. Facebook sphur as he will get back to you with a solid answer if this don't help.

Thanks for the information !
Looking like a SP-4001 for me 0 MOA with a 1.35" height .
Anyone Order direct from Spuhr ? Wait times vs just buying a dealer who has stock here in Canada ?
Awesome on the Facebook source !

Thanks

The rail on a Coyote already projects very high above the reciever. The problem with 1-piece mounts is that even the lowest ones are still quite high when compared to a standard set of rings. Even if you go with the 1.3" height you will still have the centerline of the scope well above the centerline of bore. Not a big deal but it looks ungainly IMO.

I have a Coyote with a PMII mounted in Seekins 34mm lows (.92") that easily clears the barrel. Mind you I did some DIY gunsmithing to get the bottom of the turret housing to clear the pic rail but thats a different matter.

I ordered mine direct from Spuhr, ended up being significantly cheaper but the exchange rate at the time was better.

Wait time wasn't that bad at all.

If you read the Sphur manual it is to go with 0 MOA if your base has 20 MOA. Too much MOA will cause the image to distort because you are no longer looking directly straight through the scope.

Unless you are shooting 1000+ yards all day just get the 0 MOA mount if you have a 20 MOA base.

It's not about the look and all about a good cheek weld. The SP-4001 works fine for me on my SSG08 with the cheek piece at the lowest setting.

Sphur does sell a 2 piece mount that sits lower than their 1 piece.

Why would additional angle with the mount and rail result your eye being misaligned? If your eye isn't positioned properly relative to the eyepiece, you're going to have issues. However increasing the angle between your bore and centreline of your optic does nothing to change the fact that you have to align yourself properly behind the optic. Guys shooting off 100+ moa rails certainly do not suffer from reduced visibility.

Tilt.
Tilted mounts are necessary when shooting at very long
distances. We generally recommend as little tilt as
possible as the tilt really does nothing to improve the
picture quality. In most cases 6-9 MIL (20-30 MOA)
will have no negative impact on picture quality while a
greater tilt can lead to problems.
To allow for the greatest available range of adjustment
choose a mount with a tilt that is half of the scope’s range
of elevation.
For example Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 have a
maximum of 26 MIL (93 MOA) in elevation, then
choose a mount with 13 MIL (45 MOA) in tilt. Doing so
assures that you are able to adjust the sight out to very
long distances.
However when mounted in this extreme elevation it’s
common to experience optical defects such as an oval
picture etc.
We therefore recommend that when fitting a large
elevation scope (such as 26 MIL/93 MOA) on a .308 rifle
that will only be used out to 1000 meters, to choose a
6 MIL/20 MOA tilt as it’s more than sufficient for that
use.

Eating my words.

Still not understanding the cause of it though if not for laziness on searching for and maintaining good sight alignment.
