Anyone have one of these new cell trail cams?

I just picked one up using some cabelas gift cards but cant get it to save pics to the memory card.

I pull the memory card and the files have garbage symbols and weird writing.

I was under the impression that the camera saves every picture (like a normal cam) but has the added feauture of being able to send you a compact version to your phone.

Mine doesnt seem to be saving anything to my card. I have formatted the card but am wondering if this brand new card is faulty?

Update: did full format and yes the camera saves to sd card. But for some reason stopped taking pictures after 6 minutes. Frustrating thing!

At least i know that indeed it should be saving to the sd card not just being sent to the phone (when it wants apparently)

Update:

Tried different sd card and things seem to be working better. Getting pics sent to my phone consistently. Wonder if that brand new sdcard is a lemon. Time will tell.

Were the cards the same brand? I hear game cams can be picky when it comes to the cards...

I purchased one at the closing of WSS.
Worked great for a bit and then the photos went rampant and some came thru and others were mutilated.
Called them and they said to update it.
This is a chore in itself.
I couldn't wing it so took it to an electronic shop.
They sold me a new SD card and tried the 'puter update the SD card.
No werky.
Sent it in under their two year warranty plan and they updated it and sent it back.
Works, but go figure.

One cannot plug the blastitted chit into yer puter and update it that way.

Won't be buying any more of their inventory due to this callous way of trying to update their items.

Boooo!

Different brand, seems like it is a combination of having the different card as well as making sure the cell connection is as good as possible.

Also, looky i did the firmware update. It wasnt too hard to do but required me to dload on my laptop the zip file from spypoint website, copy them to the sd card, then install the card back in to the camera. The confusing part was figuring out to copy 4 of the 5 files leaving out the file that had "mac" in the name. The online instructions weren't as clear as they could be about that part. It sounded like there should be a separate set of files for windows and mac instead of having one zip file and having to figure out which to move over.

Update:

Seems to be working consistently but instead of a 10 second delay between photos, i cant seem to get it faster than every minute and sometimes even then it wont take one. I am assuming it is because i have it set to transmit a pic every time it takes one. I dont know for sure because they dont explain it in any of the support pages.

I run a couple up at the cabin (3 cameras, 3 months now). Pretty impressed with mine, 500+ photos on a single set of AAs. A few mis-triggers especially with rain or big flying insects. There was a major firmware update around a month ago which really helped transmition time. That and making sure my phone settings were set to accept push notifications for the app rather than pulling it at fixed intervals. Also if ur running a Samsung the "data saver" feature delays recieving transmitions. Check the write speed on your SD card I forget the minimum of the top of my head but I used an old card in one of mine and because it took so long to write to the card the camera couldn't take another pic as it was out of memory after 5-8 pics...

Do these only work if the camera is in a place where it gets cell reception? Do you need to pay for a subscription or anything?

Thats what i was wondering as well. There is nothing in the manual that i saw that says without cell service it acts like a regular trail cam. All the programming requires the app. So of your cam cant be set with the app, or you unplug it from a 12v or the AA batteries, will it remember the last settings it had from the app? There is really no help unless i contact customer service i guess.

The cam comes with free unlimited pic dloads for 30 days, after that you can have a free subscription that gets you 100pics dloaded per month. You can pay for 250pics or 1000pics or unlimited per month as well depending on what you want.

You can not select pics to dload, it just sends them as they are taken (or 2/4/6/8/12 hr intervals ect.) but if you have rabbits or a branch in your view it could burn through your 100 pics in a few days and then you gotta go collect your pics from the cam yourself depending on your settings, you can set it to be less sensitive so for larger animals i guess.

Do you find it accurately does the delay? My 10 second delay seems to be about 1min. Wondering if i should play aroubd with the delay to see if i can get it to actually do 10 sec

it does 10 sec delay every time for the first 2 pics then then it seems to start to slow down...oddly enough I was mowing the grass back and forth in front of one of the cams and I swear after 20-35 triggers it just ignored me and stopped triggering. Once I stopped and rode by on atv it triggered again.

Do yourself a favour and use energizer ultimate lithium primary batteries. Walmart has them and amazon is a little cheaper. They WILL NOT LEAK acid and ruin a camera, even if left in dead fro a prolonged period. I typically get a full year out of a set of 12 in my Uway cameras.

On the SD cards, even a brand like sandisk, there is a 3 pack at walmart cheap, but made in china. If you buy them in a single pack, made in Korea (all appear identical). You almost need a magnifying glass to read on the card itself. The package is easier to see when you buy it. Bushnell and Browning cams did not like the China cards...

Yeah i think i used a samsung sd card and it worked.

As for power supply i only use 12v external batteries after we had a set of AA leak in my dad's cam. Never again! :)
