Just curious how common or rare squib loads are in factory ammo. Never had one myself,however it's a scary thought when plinking away with semi-auto rifles and handguns.

Never had a squib with factory. Had misfires with dud primers in .22, .223, .308 and 9mm factory but never squibs.

Never had a squib yet in manufactured ammo..but we always do the wait 30 secs at the range when there is no bang...

I have never had a squib with factory reloaded ammo. I had 1 squib load and it was with my 500sw!! I was using win 296 with 440 grain hard cast. Started and the recommended 35.5 grains and it didn't fully ignite. That big 50 cal slug was a royal pain to remove from the barrel. bumped it up to 37 grains ( on par with 4 of my friends and never had it happen again! just a massive boom and muzzle flash.
I had it happen to me. It was my first day out with my .460V. I cleaned it and lubricated everything as recommended before I shot it so let's get that question out of the way.
I shot an American Eagle .45 LC to check it out. It worked. I shot another and it made a "wrong" sound. I actually forget if it was the first or second shot, it may have been the first.
Anyway, it didn't sound right. I unloaded it and saw that the primer fired and there was powder residue. I was at Poco and called over an RSO to ask about it.
I put a cleaning rod in and sure enough, there was a bullet stuck in there, about 3/4 of the way down. The RSO borrowed a brass rod from someone and we got it out.
Next, I fired a .460 round and it was fine. I have to admit, I was a bit shaky. So, I went back to the .45LC and "poot", another bad round. I pounded that out and put that box of ammo aside.
Wanstalls took the ammo back, gave me another box and every one went bang when I shot them. It made me nervous to buy AE ammo for a while but I got over that. It was just a bad batch.
So yes, it can and does happen.

I've been very lucky with regard to squips in factory ammo. Can't recall any .22 duds, but I shoot RWS and Eley, so there bloody well better not be any. Had 2 duds in 480 rounds of surplus 7.5x55. They both went bang the second time, so half-duds. Never had any issues with .223 and 12 gauge.
