I took it to the range for the first time and it has FTF issues after every 1-2 shots. It turns out the mag does not sit right and moves. Now this is the M16 version, to be clear. Is there supposed to be a set screw onhte lever arm inside the magwell to old the mag from dropping down 1/2 inch? Anyone have any tips or info on this issue?? It shot well but the mag issue has to be resolved before anything else happens with this gun.
On the lever in the magwell there is a small 1/8 inch hole where it looks like something used to be there to locate and hold the mag in place, there is also a corresponding spot on the mag body. LITTLE HELP HERE????

Try not to touch or hold the magazine when fireing the rifle, just hold the forearm, I had lots of FTF and found that holding the mag while shooting was the problem, thats all I got hope that helps.

Is the pivot pin for the mag release missing? the mag should lock in solidly. Agreed, don't hold the mag when shooting.

No doubt the bolt is dirty too and needs to be removed and cleaned up.

The gun was stripped, cleaned thoroughly, and I never touch the mag when firing. I was firing from the standing position with my hand on the forward handguard as usual. The mag has some forward and rearward movement to it and does not feel secure at all. When you lock the mag in place you can pull it down and out without depressing the lever on the mag body its self.

I've had 3 different SB M16's. Cool little rifles.

The mag does move back and forth a bit when locked in, but you shouldn't be able to pull it out. You may be missing a pin. If there is a hole you can see though you'll need to replace it. A roll pin you can get at TSC might work. Hopefully the mag catch button and spring are still there?

I've got 3 "M-16-style" mags and one curved 5-rounder....the latter refuses to seat properly in the mag well, regardless of how much hockey-tape I use to "beef-up" its profile :(. The 3 longer mags work very well, though - luckily! :)

I bought my first one when I was in high school. I took the bus to The Outdoor Stores on Finch near Weston Rd in Toronto and took it home on the bus...in the box of course.

One of them I had refinished by a furniture guy...he finished it the same as a baby grand piano...it looked pretty good. Someone I know saw it and said, hey, that looks exactly the same as my baby grand...:)

They always ran well until the bolt got dirty, thus you have to take them down and clean em out once in a while.

Watch out when you unscrew that back cap...the springs will want to fly and get you in the eyes...

To get the bolt back in, you have to use a punch to hold the tripping lever back.

I've never had a problem getting the spring back into my M20. Just guide it in. The hard part is getting the cap to start that 1st thread.
i use Q-tips and varsol to clean my bolt. For the extractor, spray it with brake cleaner. Or dunk the whole bolt into a butter container of varsol let soak for a bit, then sloosh it around, then wipe with Q-tips. Be sure you clean out the bolt channel too.
If you've never taken the bolt out...be aware that you have to "trip" the rebound lever when putting it back into the reciever. The "trip" is stamped into the side of it so you cant miss it.

I am missing part 2032 in the diagram. Does not look lik e a simple roll pin. Since I am off today I guess I will have to see what I can get to work. Anyone have a pic of it? It looks almost like a small machine screw.

pretty sure most of the parts are the same.

There is good spring tension on my mag retainer. It does click nice and firm.

Nope, different. Mine has a straight enge on it, not curved like yours and the mag release is on the mag not the catch like yours. I got a threaded set screw and repaired it so in a couple hours I will be at the range testing her out. It manually feeds and ejects the entire mag by hand now so it should be a done deal.
