A friend of mine has one of these rifles and hasn`t shot it in almost 20 years. Can he still use it? Hes under the assumption they are banned and I just don`t know.
He wants to bring it out to the range and run a few hundred rounds thru it.

I had thought so as well, however at a gun auction I was at not too long ago one went on the block as non-restricted. The cfo passed the paperwork through right away. After that auction I looked into it, and the Squires Bingham is not on the "variant" list. The Armscor 1600 and the AP-15 also are not restricted (if you can find one). The AP-15 is the only one of the group that actually looks like an Armalite. How the AP-15 slipped through, I have no idea. ...As anal and backwards the CFC is.

The Squires Bingham M16 I can see not being restricted because if you look at it, it's just a Model 20D with different sights and AR'esque stock.

.. "BUT", since it's one of those guns that everyone assumes is restricted, you'd do well to treat it as such when you transport it and use it in public. We all know how well an "no it's not, yes it is" argument can go with a cop.

BTW.. the one I saw at the auction went for just over $900 because everyone there assumed that it was restricted as well and they we're sneaking under the radar. Turns out that misinformation made it probably the most valuable SB M16 around.

That's so funny about the $900.00 SB.

Yeah, they're non-restricted. I used to own one. Crappy crappy crappy quality. But it worked well. Beware of the plastic trigger housing, cheap pot-metal parts that break, and pins as thick as staples.

It's craptacular.

And just to confuse the issue even more...the AK-22 made by the same company and using the SAME action but looks like an AK, is prohibited!
Put a different stock on it, reregister it as a model 20 and you have a non restricted rifle. Then we get into the AP-74, an italian .22 that looks like an AR, pretty close actually as I put AR furniture on it, no other parts fit nor is the action even close to an AR but it is restricted. Does anyone have a mag for one of these by the way?

I have a S&B M1600 for sale right now in the EE. Non-restricted .22cal with a 15 round mag. I never had any problems with mine but I don't use it much since I got a krinker and need some money. I would keep it if I could afford too. Wish we could get the AK version though.

Thnx for the info guys.
hmm...$900 eh? !$&#
I didnt buy one back when they came out cause I thought it looked girly compared to the real deal.
Shows how little foresight someone can have eh?

Why would it ever be considered a "variant" of an M-16? There's not a single bolt in there that is the same between the two. It's non restricted and way too much money for an ugly looking replica of the M-16...my own opinion, of course.

no you absolutely right, junk for sure. I had mine given to me and it was listed as RESTRICTED by the CFC. Had to point it out to them that it was non restricted of which they rewarded me with, " attend the nearest verifier and waste your time to prove it."

Oh man...I don`t know about this...

The key word in this sentence is **any**22 calibre rimfire variant, including...

To me that reads restricted!

Non-restricted all the way ,between 100$ to 180$ depend of condition, pure junk :runaway: my AIR17 .177 repeater are better look :D
BTW fun to shoot, i own one but i far prefer my AP74!

900$ for that creature ...:runaway: :sucks:

They are great little rifles, but never pay over $300 for one..that's WELL enough.

All S&B M16/M16R/M1600 ect are NON-RESTRICTED. Period....case closed. If you have one that isn't regestered as such, then it's a mistake. How many threads does it take to beat that through?

Btw, are bulpups illegal in canada? They must be eh? Yea...bet they are...all of them.....:D
