Never tried to call in squirrels or attract them but have a reason to now at our recreation site. Tree climbing kind.

I've read here about 10 cent gopher or "ground squirrel" calls but I don't know if those will work for this application. Also interested in hearing what others may have used to bring them in.

Thanks for your time in advance.

Regards
Ron

Ground squirrels (gophers) emit a high pitched whistle. Red squirrels chatter. I can't recall if grey and black squirrels chatter too? I haven't hunted them since I was a teenager and haven't lived in grey/black squirrel country since back then.

Take two quarters, and place one in your left palm, cupped so there is a little air space under it. Tap the coin with the other one as fast as you can to make a tick-tick-tick-tick sound drives squirrels nuts.

Get at least 5 .30-06 empty shells in your hand and open and close your hand quickly. Practice a bit and will bring them right to you. works best on a calm day.

I usually just make a "clacking" sound with my mouth. Works great when they are on the opposite side of the tree. They come around to investigate and bang.

If you know anyone with a terrier breed dog, they are unreal at finding squirrels. I've got a 10 lb terrier mix who seeks them out like a homing missile.

Too Funny^^^:d. I am not any smarter than the average bear and I was trying to emulate that sound some how...so simple...and trying this made me howl...this sounds like them buggers.

Terrific tip Dogleg!

Have an awesome week!

Kind of like rattling for deer with one of those "antler" bags. I called in a buck using that and I can see this working as well on the squirrels. I'll give it a try and thanks for the advice. If I call some in using this method it will be something.

I've whistled at white tail to make them stop. Followed by bang as you mentioned. I can see this working too. Don't know if I can do it though with a mouthful of chew R:d:

My chocolate lab goes ape S&%# whenever one shows up at our site. If the aim was to not be covert my dog would be with me...more likely to scare up stripes and quills mind you. Terriers eh...there's a couple around up there. Their handlers don't seem to be hunting types but with all the squirrels invading living spaces, they might be obliged.

Thanks for the tip and time to respond.

This call sounds like a red squirrel but never took time to try and see if it works. We get enough of them coming into camp without using a call but not to many leave.

Peavey Mart in Moose Jaw have/had these.

In the 'old days' (mid 1990s) they were wooden affairs about 2.5x6 inches with a hole in one end and a brass mouthpiece in the other.

Sometime later they replaced these with a more compact camoflage pen sized caller with a handy pocket clip.

They worked at times when the little devils were hesitant to show thier heads above ground level.

Three thumbs up!!!

EDIT: Oops! Tree squirrels, not ground squirrels. My mistake folks.....
