I was just wondering how many SR 22 owners have removed their barrel support block? I heard a rumor that it can improve accuracy, any truth behind that??

Some say it doesn't matter, some say it does. It is there to avoid the dreaded barrel droop. On regular 10/22s the weight of the barrel (especially heavy bull barrels) can cause the receiver to bend and create a hump. With the SR22 I am not sure but you never know. I would play is safe and leave it in. They wouldn't install it for shyts and giggles so it's there for a reason. :D

Took mine out, haven't noted any decrease in accuracy. I was forced to do so because the QC at Ruger is apparently not great, and the (too high) block pushed the forearm out of center alignment with the barrel.

How can removing it improve accuracy? At best it will make it worse after time. Probably thinking of free floating. That 1" isn't going to make a difference anyways.

barrel harmonics , some rifles like a pressure point , most dont .Almost Every rifle I have owned has shot better free floated. Will the barrel droop if it is removed? some say yes, some say no , thats a can of worms :nest:

took mine out to center the barrel better didn't seem to affect the accuracy at all but the barrel seemed to flex alot. that bugged me so i put it back in. putting a shorter block in to center it also let it move to much. only idea i have left to do is shorten it and put another block above the barrel with loose tolerances and maybe high temp silicone to keep minimal movement possible. just my 2 cents. happy shooting

Lose the block.. you will not regret it. The block was a good idea in theory but its proper function is limited by the poor attachment design of the forearm adapter. This part attaches to the lower front side of receiver and is responsible for keeping the forearm in line and in place. It does neither really well, hence the forearm has some flex to it. That flex is transmitted to the barrel support block and as you move around or lay the forearm on a rest it will constantly vary the pressure. That is why it does nopt work very well with the SR22 and it works fine with other firearms. My groups went down about 30% by removing it.

I removed mine. The SR22 is sporting a Dlask 12.5" bull barrel. The groups shrunk a bit without it in place and it seems pretty solid. That said, the barrel doesn't protrude much beyond the handguard so there's not much leverage on it.
Happy shooting.
