Hey all - While I'm waiting for my SR-22 to arrive, I'd like to plan out some mods to eventually bring it in line with M4 CQB dimensions.

For now, I need advice on the stock: I'm not too picky, so what's the cheapest way to go collapsible here? Do I understand that I'll need both a stock and a buffer tube? Any compatibility issues to be aware of?

Thanks...

I think the newer SR-22 that are coming into Canada already have a collapsible stock. I thought it was just the first couple of batches that came in that had fixed stocks, no?

FYI .. the Ruger extension (buffer) tube is MILSPEC. Any AR stock should fit it providing you get the right size. Commercial Spec will fit as well, but there will be some play/movement in the stock. CAA or Tapco would be your most inexpensive way to get a collapsible for your SR

Not so sure about that... I tried sliding a commercial spec stock on mine one time and it just wouldn't go - the width of the squared section on the bottom of the tube was just wrong

Was sure that they would, I guess I stand corrected.

So go with MILSPEC and you can't go wrong ... unless someone comes along and says differently :D :p

Bump...has anyone done this? I have a non adjustable version and I would like to remedy this.

thanks,

Its an easy fix. In the hole that the red arrow points to, there is a split pin (roll pin) inserted into the blind hole.

This hole does not go all the way through the stock on the other side on purpose. Its designed to infuriate those who wish to just punch it out. No matter. You need to get a very tiny drill that will fit inside the roll pin. We are talking a number drill like a #57-#60. In a dremel tool or a pin vice, drill through the other side of the plastic stock to give yourself a location point. Flip the stock over and use that point to drill down to the roll pin with a drill the same size as the roll pin (1/16" if I remember correctly). Go easy because the roll pin is almost as hard as the drill and will catch on it if you press too hard. Now you have a clear hole running through that you take a 1/16" punch or a 1/16" drill bit and drive that roll pin out with a few taps with a hammer.

You may try using a red hot pin to push through the roll pin and the opposite side of the stock if you don't have a tiny number drill that fits inside it. You may also just find the rough location on the opposite side of the stock and try drilling down to the roll pin with a larger drill...this will leave a bigger ugly hole, or several of them if you miss.

Once your done removing the roll pin, you need to drill and tap some 1/4X20 holes along the square spine under the tube for new locations of the bolt that locks it. I put only one on mine...looks like this.

Bought mine last week. Collapsing stock. A gun store near me has one they've been unable to unload though with the fixed stock. What's the model # of what you have on order?

Be prepared to order a flash suppressor if you want your gun to have that look...becuase it's definitely not coming with one of those.

The early models didnt have the collapsible stock. I happen to have one of those. Doesnt matter to me I would have it all the way extended anways. Im pretty sure Magpul makes a collapsible stock for the SR. From what I hear they look pretty rocking to. Might look into it myself.

actually, jt...you're right...I have a milspec tube with a CTR on it and was able to switch with a commercial VLTOR...but I can't put the CTR into my AR commercial stock...and also there is a tiny bit of play
