Just got a used SR-22, a little beat up.

However I find that the front handguard has a tendency of twisting.

I plan installing a lower rail for a front grip, but I am worried that with use the whole front end will twist, throwing off my sights etc...

Anyone has any fixes for this?
Do I require a special tool to properly tighten everything?

Try tightening the locking ring. It is located behind the handguard tube on the barrel nut, you will need a punch and mallet.

What jt says is true, a punch and mallet will work. I imagine that there is a tool for that, probably not too different from a motorcycle shock adjusting wrench. If you do go with the punch/mallet, try to use a soft punch, like brass or aluminum to prevent marring or peening the notches on the ring.
Cheers!!

I think it would be easier to find a punch and mallet :D

I went around the city one day looking for a armorers wrench and couldn't find anything of the sort at the gun shops. I then went around looking for a spanner wrench for adjusting snowmobile shock as well .. nothing .. lol

I had the same issue with mine, I found that the 2 allen wrench screws just behind and slightly lower then the hand guard were getting loose, so I tightened them and had no issues after that.

Hey jt,
Not to hi-jack the thread but I'll look down in my shop today and see if I still have the shock adjusting wrench that came with my old bike shocks. If so I'll send it to ya.
Cheers!!

I ended up buying one online, one of those dual job kind for the Handguard and Stock.

But thank you for the offer! Very kind and generous of you.

Iron Eagle has a couple of brush guards that will help to keep the barrel tight with the hand guard.

I dont think those will stop the handgaurd from twisting , that is to fill the hole around the barrel at the end of the handgaurd . Tighten the Jamb nut .
Off topic from the OP post---> the rails Ironeagle sells are Not Picatiny rails
