Hello all,

Ok I have narrowed my choice of first .22 down to these two. The primary use for now will be at the range but I do like the 'tacticool' idea of being able to dress it up as I choose but am not sure if I should wait until I have gained more experience as a shooter and learned more about the hobby first (noob here).

I would appreciate any input, opinion, comments, and feedback etc. concering the above two. Issues such as magazine problems, accuracy, aftermarket parts and so on. I have not made up my mind as of yet and will use the information gained here to do so.

Thanks to all in advance for taking the time to reply,

Coach

I tried a friend's SR-22 and liked it so much I bought one too.

For my purposes, the AR-style ergonomics and options are great. A non-restricted AR .22 is great. YMMV.

If you have kids, taking them out shooting that adjustable buttstock is great, with instant length of pull adjustment.

Down sides are the SR currently costs more than the TT, and conveniently Ruger left the rails as "accessories". Fortunately, you can at least pick rails up via Ruger in the US or Dlask here in Canada, and if you hunt the EE often, I've noticed both SR's and TT's coming up fairly regularily with some not bad deals.

It really depends on what you want to do with it, a few months ago I wanted to buy a 22LR plinker and then I seen a 10/22 Target and really liked it even thou it wasnt what i was looking for, bought it and have put 1500 rds though it, its great for shooting from a rest and making nice holes in paper or threading the eye of a needle from 50 yds.

But it really didn't take care of my craving for a fun "tactical' plinking rifle so I ended up buying a SR-22 last week, put a vortex red dot on it and ABSOLUTLY LOVE IT for plinking around shooting cans or whatever.

So you just have to decide want you want it for more

For me it came down to what was I going to do with the gun? Like you I shoot at Silverdale, and I really dont shoot anything but handguns on the action range! If I am going to be shooting from a bench I wanted the gun to be as accurate as possible and I think the Target tactical has the edge here. I also plan on using the gun for some grouse hunting and although a little heavy it will make a great grouse gun. Now if I was into the AR scene and did alot of CQB type stuff I might think to go with the SR22. Now I should mention for the same money as an SR22 I just picked up an SKS with Tapco stock, and duckbill mags that will serve as my tactical fun plinker. Just seemed like more fun. At least it goes bang, if it aint gonna be a tac driver might as well be loud!
