SR1911 Mirror polished? Suggestions?

In my experience, a mirror polish tends to interfere with the quick acquisition of a sight picture (assuming that you're also interested in one of those).

YMMV

View attachment 602003It’s probably cheaper to buy one with a factory finish.

Here’s mine, Gun cost me $600 ish and I had some upgrades done by Rodger Kotanko.

New trigger, new beaver tail, new hammer and new adjustable sights.

It’s easy to clean and I never lose that front sight, rain or shine..

If you can wax your car and buff, you can do it. Just need an electric variable speed polisher/grinder, wheel and buffing compound. Just be patient as it will not happen in 1 hr. It will look good. But shooting under a bright sun on indoor light might be a problem. That is the reason they make it dull/matte finish.

Or if you just want the sides shinny, a leather strop on a flat surface and polishing compound.
but that is just for dead flat, or you have lots of work.
Buffing wheels, but have to be careful not to round off corners.

Mother’s polish a white tee shirt works as well

Works great! I did my old 5” S&W 686 with just Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish and cotton cloths. Took about 4-5 hours total over a few days. Looked great however I regretted doing it, considered having it bead blasted satin, but sold it instead.

I know everyone has different tastes and to each his own but that gun would make me want to buy a big floppy hat, a leopard skin coat, pink Cadillac with side pipes and say "Bro" and "ho" a lot (think the guy in Dirty Harry's "Magnum Force").
