SR22 Handguards?

Hey there SR22 rifle owners,

I am interested in purchasing a SR22 rifle. I want to replace the grip and stock. I know the stock is mil spec. Will something like a magpul MOE grip fit?

I am also really wanting to replace the handguard. How is the hand guard attached? Will any AR style free float hand guard work? I am confused as to how it is held on and what it would take to replace. Also would i have any issues with the standard hand guard and a .920 bull barrel? I am aware that the top rails would not line up height wise with the receiver which is not a big deal for me, just looking to change out the hand guard to something nicer.

Any explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Most AR grips will fit. I'm not sure if the kind with the extension-thingy for your thumb/finger join fits. TEG?

Outer sleeve of HG has internal and external threads. The external ones are for the locking ring, the internal ones thread it to the front part of the SR22 3-pc chassis. It can be on there pretty tight, so search here for tips to remove it if you get stuck.

Will any AR style free float hand guard work?
Yes, and so will older-style 2-part HG when used with an AR bbl nut and Delta Ring, plus end cap.

I am confused as to how it is held on and what it would take to replace.
Loosen locking ring and screw off. Screw in new one.

Also would i have any issues with the standard hand guard and a .920 bull barrel?
Nope

I am aware that the top rails would not line up height wise with the receiver which is not a big deal for me, just looking to change out the hand guard to something nicer.
You can buy top rails for SR 22 and tap the new HG to fit. The factory HG is also easy to saw down to a shorter length if that is what you might be looking at.
 
i just picked up some Dlask rails and i love them.
i love how they match up the ones that are already on it to give it that solid even rail line along the top.
 
Hey there, Thanks for the info. I am just thinking about changing it for aesthetics and maybe to reduce the weight a bit. Was going to go with a black and flat dark earth colour scheme. so may put a whole new hand guard on it in that colour, along with a grip and stock. The top rail is nice looking for sure. I picked up one of their 12.5 bullbarrels after you showed me your 10/22s I will have to post a pic some time.

Hogue makes a dark earth HG, grip, and stock. I like how they look on SR22, but you'd have to tap the HG to attach a top rail...not sure how that would go given the rubbery coating on the HG, and the fact there's no lock ring to index it.
