As the title says, would i be better off buying an sr22 or building a 10/22 with the archangel 556 stock, pros and cons to either. i dont need a tack driver, minute of gopher at 100 yds is all i need. any thoughts, comments or concerns would be greatly appreciated

I suppose my SR would be able to hit a gopher at a 100 yards, but....

At that range I think you'd be better off with a good bolt gun and decent optics. My SR is a fun plinker and with the 1x red dot I don't think I could hit much beyond 50 yards without some great optics.

I could upgrade to a real scope on the SR, but doing that to an SR just looks silly to me. That's also why I have a Savage MKII TR with a great scope on it. That that will be my gopher gun.

^ I have to agree with that...

I have a standard 10/22 modified a bit with a quad rail for rapid fire plinking only, and a MKII FVSR with a big scope for soda cans at a 100. can't go wrong with a cheap Savage 17hmr in place of the .22 bolt gun either, and it'll reach out twice as far for pretty cheap.

Meh, 100 yards a SR-22 is just as accurate as a Savage Mk II. The difference is in the optic really. I can hit the 8"x12" plate every time at 100 yards with my SR-22. Accuracy inside 100 yards is pretty even at minute of gopher. Beyond that is another story.

Between the two options presented I'd take the SR-22. The SR-22's parts are machined aluminum, the archangel's are plastic.

Thats, kinda where i was leaning. i want to build something that is essentially my own, that and as of now i dont see many sr22's in stock, that new ATI stock looks good, sounds like itll be a bit more expensive than the archangel 556. anybody have any experience with the plastic and fit and finish on the Archangel stock?

The new ati stock, the forarm is metal unlike the archangel. Both will put the 10/22 @ 7ish lbs without optics. Abit less if you have a light barrel.
Guess ATI have been reading all the plastic haters posts and tried to appease them.
Really wish we could have bullpups stocks. Did you see thenew center balanced systems 10/22!

As an SR-22 owner, it is a fantastic gun, really well made and actually surprisingly accurate even out past 100m.
A good friend has a regular 10-22 in the ATI stock and I have shot it quite a bit. Both are nice, but the regular 10-22 in an ATI certainly is a bit lighter.
One advantage of the SR-22 in my mind though is it's heavier weight barrel, which would likely be an upgrade going the custom route.

Personally, if you are using this just for hunting gophers, I would take @gopher73's advice and go for a bolt gun (cz455 is reaaaal nice!)
IF you want a .22 that is more "tacticool" then I would definitely take the SR-22 over one of the plastic aftermarket stocks.
