Good Morning

I'm working afternoon shift and obviously have to much time on my hands this a.m. So here is my question for you gentlemen. What would your choice be?

1) SS Zastava in 9.3x62 with the factory Tupperware stock, open sights etc.

2) Ruger guide gun in .375 Ruger with its laminate stock, open sights etc.

What are the reasons for your choice excluding caliber?

Thanks

Fuzzy

The zastavas are a bit rough but they smooth out with time and they are definitely a reliable mauser action. I'm a big fan of the 9.6x32 as well..though I also own a 375 ruger. The ruger action is good and sturdy as well...you may find the laminate stock adds some weight. I think the guide gun also comes with a muzzle brake which may or may not be your thing.

Myself I'd take the zastava but that is because I love the 9.3x62 and already have one blued. I also own the ruger Alaskan predecessor to the guide gun.

The ruger has better sights but you can fix that on the zastava. I like lighter weight and the zastava is likely lighter, still rugged and reliable, no muzzle brake for ear deafening blast (as I don't wear ear plugs when hiking and using it only for protection) and a very good calibre with less recoil but still good for up to dangerous game.

Just my 2 cents

Ruger, hands down. I handled a couple of the lefty big bore Z's at Wolverine in Red Deer a few months back, found the fit/finish to be pretty amateurish and there wasn't a whole lot of meat left on the barrel with the big bore drilled through it. I did not handle any SS versions as they do not appear to exist in LH.

My Ruger lh SS laminate in .375 Ruger has excellent fit/finish, has great wood, a great factory trigger and has put every load I've fed it into sub-moa off the bench. Also has a great proprietary mounting system and excellent iron sights. It is a bit heavier but that is a positive in my eyes.

Of the 2 I'd go zastava. If it were the Ruger Alaskan or African I'd take that. I've shot th guide gun. It's a good gun just can't stand the looks of it. It is a well thought out gun and have no issues with the guide gun except for the way it looks

i dont like the guide gun stock.

i like my 375 ruger lh alaskan cant comment on the stainless synthetic zastava as they re made only for RH and we didnt keep our 30-06 stainless zastava not that we didnt like it but sometimes too many 30-06 is too much ...
