i have been reloading my 270 with 2 different types of bullets tring to find out which one is better, but so far at the range they both act the same(less then 1inch groups at 100 yards) the bullets i have been using are the hornady 150 grain interlock and the hornady 150 grain sst.the poweder i have been using is imr4064.

Now for my question, what is the better bullet for hunting deer and black bear?
I only ask because at the range there is no real difference but when it comes to the kill is there going to be.

Thanks C

personally I would choose the flat base Interlock, although I'm sure the SST would perform pretty good as well. Interlocks are cheaper too

If I recall there is a SST Interlock and a reg sp Interlock same as the SST Interbond and a Sp Interbond?

However to answer the question if the both shoot good go with the Sp Interlock

there are :

Hornady Interlocks - soft point non bonded bullets with a locking groove inside the jacket to hold the core in place

Hornady SST - poly tip non bonded bullet with the same locking groove as interlock

Hornady Interbond - poly tip bonded bullet that will retain a good portion of the lead core on impact for higher weight retention

some of the larger caliber hornady bullets (375, 416, 458) were recently called interbonds, but have lead tips unlike the 338 and smaller interbonds which have red poly tips. rumor is Hornady has now switched back to interlock design for the big bore bullets

I prefer the SST.

As near as I can tell the accuracy and on game performance is identical. On game is tough because it's so seldom you can recover a bullet. I have one recovered from a deer (regular SP) and one from a wild boar (SST). They look identical - both have a retained weigh of slightly greater than 60% and both penetrated very deeply.

Since performance is the same I like SST better because the tip doesn't get deformed by the repeated loading and unloading associated with the tupe of hunting I do.

If you look at my recent 6.5 bullet test, I was also surprised that the SST actually retain more weight in wet news paper than the regular Interlock. This is my only experience with them and I can't comment on their performance on game.
