In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, i’m posting my latest build of a clone of a rifle that has a notorious history in Ireland: the AR-180. This clone was made using a Kodiak Defense WK-180c lower receiver:
First up, 2 pockets had to be milled in the receiver for an AR-180 recoil rod assembly.
Next, a folding stock adapter had to be designed and machined.
Then, in order to make it non-restricted, a 20” AR-15 barrel was repurposed by cutting it down to 18.5”, reprofiling it, plugging the existing gas port and redrilling a new one at the correct location. Then the old barrel was removed and the new barrel installed.
Then, an AR-180 style of pistol grip was modeled and “3D printed” via SLS in glass filled nylon. This is a drop in part, and if anyone is interested in getting one, just send me a PM.
Then finally a buttstock spigot was machined and threaded into the WK-180 lower receiver.
Last step was to paint the pistol grip and then cerakote the lower receiver to match the colour of the upper as close as possible.
Special thanks to a few CGNers who graciously sold me some parts (you know who you are haha). And also wanted to say how awesome it is that Kodiak Defense for making all the parts to their WK-180 available for sale. That just really supports the guys that like to tinker/mod their guns.
Disclaimer: because unfortunely some people may not have a sense of humour, I have to point out that the IRA reference was clearly posted in jest. I do not support terrorism of any kind.
