In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, i’m posting my latest build of a clone of a rifle that has a notorious history in Ireland: the AR-180. This clone was made using a Kodiak Defense WK-180c lower receiver:

First up, 2 pockets had to be milled in the receiver for an AR-180 recoil rod assembly.

Next, a folding stock adapter had to be designed and machined.

Then, in order to make it non-restricted, a 20” AR-15 barrel was repurposed by cutting it down to 18.5”, reprofiling it, plugging the existing gas port and redrilling a new one at the correct location. Then the old barrel was removed and the new barrel installed.

Then, an AR-180 style of pistol grip was modeled and “3D printed” via SLS in glass filled nylon. This is a drop in part, and if anyone is interested in getting one, just send me a PM.

Then finally a buttstock spigot was machined and threaded into the WK-180 lower receiver.

Last step was to paint the pistol grip and then cerakote the lower receiver to match the colour of the upper as close as possible.

Special thanks to a few CGNers who graciously sold me some parts (you know who you are haha). And also wanted to say how awesome it is that Kodiak Defense for making all the parts to their WK-180 available for sale. That just really supports the guys that like to tinker/mod their guns.

Disclaimer: because unfortunely some people may not have a sense of humour, I have to point out that the IRA reference was clearly posted in jest. I do not support terrorism of any kind.

And it's down Along the Falls Road, that's where I long to be,
Lying in the dark with a Provo company,
A comrade on my left and another on my right
And a clip of ammunition for my little Armalite.

NICE JOB!!!! This makes me wish I had a garage full of Machine Tools.

As for the disclaimer, don't be surprised if you get some hate. I'm a member of a few Veteran Facebook Groups (use to be more but for the total stupid that you can encounter, had to leave a few for my Blood Pressure). One of the more active members posted some pics showing IRA with AR-18 Rifles etc. Some of the ####eaters lost their minds, I mean mental, no reasoning with them (####eaters, if you "enjoyed" a meal at a British Mess then you know what I mean by that).

Yeah I been thinking getting some machine tools. I love seeing projects like this.

While in Wainwright. I had a British guy that always sung The Dubliners - McCafferty to me, every time he seen me.

Murder over a bit of CB, man McCafferty had some anger issues. For those who don't know Confined to Barracks isn't as benign as it sounds. A week can turn into a month long Nightmare. Say left, right, left, right as fast as you can, now imagine some chump strutting around the Parade Square at that pace...with a loaded pack, maybe even Web Gear, and a Weapon, and that's just maybe 1/2 hour of your "off duty" time that day.

What is the history on it, did the IRA utilize this firearm in the rebellion or something? Cool project.
They got a trunkload of them from the US, and then murdered people with them because they weren't capable of much else. Low functioning people at best. Eventually we infiltrated them and paid them off. I still have a scar on my nose from when they broke it. Good job they didn't know who I was :). Happy Paddie's day!

Here’s the little song to go with that beautiful rifle for all the Irish today and all us Armalite 180 owners out there :::Dieseldog!
