Hi brothers,

which functionally stable and yet budget RED DOTS do you use on your SKSes?

anybody is using holosun (not really budget)?

I personally like open sights on distances >75-100m, but <75m red dot is a nice addition to have
thanks guys for your feedback

Check the stats on the optic before you buy it. If its not waterproof and shockproof, I wouldn't even think about it. I got a Vortex Venom for my SKS. With the Kodiak Defense mount, I had a mount and red dot worth twice as much as the gun. Just because the gun was $200 when you bought it doesn't mean you have to buy the cheapest optic for it. The SKS is a good reliable gun so why would you put a turd on it?

I generally agree

bought two trs25 for both of my SK

This is my set-up, so far AK mags (SKS-KD) work ok after around 500+ rounds, didn't try trs25 yet-trying it tomorrow

This is in a way a derivative of SKS-D, which, unfortunately I don't have as they are not readily available in CANADA

As to the photo above [please don't take it personal :) ]
I am a BIG OPPONENT TO REMOVING THE BACKUP OPEN SIGHTS or making them unusable-just like a so cold scout mount above
No matter what, there must be back-up sights, especially, if you are creating SHTF/ hunting rifle: check any modern hunting rifle... there is even no any open sights on most of them.
Did those ppl, who created those, hunt? May be they did in an ideal greenhouse?

In many cases, optics may be off by banging into a branch or fall of the rifle, which is not that uncommon, believe it or not or worse-optics may be gone and destroyed by a more significant impact.

Now Imagine, your scope is not x2-20 x40-60, but a regular x4-x9 x40-50... and boom, there is an animal within 20 meters... will you try to use your scope still? Maybe not, aha I forgot, you will use your red dot... but your battery died.. now what?

But that's hunting-you may come home and fix it.. and even then... there are sudden bears around you when using scope is not possible to quickly acquire your target.. now imagine when people rely on optics only, especially battery operated, for SHTF.... and that is really insane, those ppl have never seen a total collapse of society and do not understand what does it mean: no soap, no matches, and, of course, no batteries for months and months and months to come...

By the way, with this SKS, I easily take down a 7" metal target with open sights alone, which is not a big deal, but for practical shooting-that's more than enough

Depends on the kind of hunt your doing.... And your personal preference.

Bush guns will often come with iron sights for obvious reasons.

And safari guns will often come with irons aswell. Not only for taking close range shots, but also serving as a back up in case the hunters optic breaks he doesn't have to search all over Africa to find a replacement in order to continue the hunt.

As for your typical hunter in North America using a typical hunting rifle, there are more good reasons on why he wouldn't want irons on his rifle than why he would.

I usually see one or two Regular SKS D's for sale here, the one's with the AK style mag release are of better quality, Over the ones called MC5D, that just looks regular like a regular mag release, at least when I had one. Usually, they are priced a bit high, either model, I find as well.
