Hello Everyone,

I bought a new Staccato P before the ban. Ever since fresh out of the box, the slide occasionally does not lock back. I just used regular factory 115 and 124 gr ammo.

Anyone knows what's the solution here?

I'm tempted to use the lighter recoil spring, but was worried that it may damage the slide over the long time, as the slide might ram the frame?? I don't know.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Cheers,

UV

You are best positioned to gauge whether the current recoil spring set up is adequate or not for proper slide function. A lighter spring is unlikely to pose a problem though.

I've had that issue with a 1911 and the problem for me was that the magazine follower was not always engaging the slide stop. I solved the issue by using magazines with different followers.

Unless you are unknowingly riding the slide or the slide lock down with your thumb due to grip placement, or simply limp wristing. I would think it has to do with magazines, either magazine springs, followers, or possibly with the pinning of the magazines affecting the magazine spring/follower travel.

Do you know when your pistol was manufactured? I have the Staccato P optic ready that was also purchased a few months before the ban was announced, mine did not come with any spare recoil springs. My pistol came shipped with the no paint recoil spring for standard loads, and I bought the same springs for spares. I also have bought 4 more pinned magazines from Freedom Ventures after buying the pistol 2 with the extended base pad and 2 with the standard base pads. I have never had the pistol not lock back for me with any of the magazines I have, and Im at least 2000 rounds into it

If it was me I would clean and lube the pistol very well, specifically the rails and the slide lock, and try racking the slide back slowly with no rounds in it and make sure it locks back with all your magazines easily.
Dissasemble your magazines clean and lube the springs and just check how well the springs function in moving the followers all the way to the top
Shoot it with your thumbs off to the side making sure not to ride the slide or slide lock, to rule that out
If possible try to use someone elses magazines in it to rule out your magazines

As others have said I lean towards the magazine, if you can rule out the shooter/grip 100%. As personally the only issue I have ever had with my Staccato or any of my other pistols not locking back have been when I let new shooters try them and they either ride the slide or slide lock with their grip, or they simply limp wrist when shooting.

1. Rule out shooter-induced malfunctions (e.g. riding the slide stop, and limp wrist).

2. With no ammunition in the room, hand-cycle the pistol with each magazine that you own to confirm positive slide stop engagement.

3. Let us know what you find - If the problem is still there we can go to the next step but you want to rule these out first.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll share some updates once this gets sorted out. Pretty sure I'm not riding the slide stop and my wrist is okay. It locks while I'm manually pulling the slide over an empty mag, but wouldn't do so while I'm actually shooting it.

To confirm, does the slide lock open while manually cycling with each magazine that you have? Also, be darn sure it's not your grip interfering with the slide stop (sometimes it's a sneaky one). It's frustrating to spend time and money trying to diagnose a mechanical problem that is actually an ergonomic problem.

How many rounds do you have through the pistol?

The next easy steps to try are to do a thorough cleaning and re-lube. Also, if your round count is relatively low, store the pistol with the slide locked open until your next range trip. We're still just ruling out the obvious, which you'll want to do before doing anything like changing springs.
