Hi guys, what's everyone using to secure your stags for barrel nut/muzzle device installation?

You will need a reaction rod for ar10, to be proper.

Reaction rod, tourqe wrench and barrel nut wrench for the barrel.
And armourers wrench for the brake.

i used a Geissele reaction rod to do mine. Keeps the torque off the receiver.

The Brownells 308AR barrel tool is cheap and works fairly well. Not as good as the reaction rod but a good $100+ cheaper. Word fine for a tool you use a couple of times.

Does a barrel vise work? A reaction rod holds it by the barrel extension so it should be ok to hold it by the barrel, I think. It's a good excuse to build or buy one . Comes in mighty useful for bolt actions, too.

After building a few, I’m pretty sure you can tighten it 30-40 lft lbs by hand.
No need for reaction rods

Sorry beltfed, but I meant ft lbs.

I’m sure you can do this by hand, as once you get close , it’s all in the timing of the hand guard.
And 30 - 40 ft lbs is only no more than hand tight.

Interesting point - 40 foot pounds is really only 20 pounds force on a 2 foot extension, or 10 on a four foot extension.

35 to 80 ft lbs.
That’s a lot of room for movement
