Hello all,
I've read and read and read through tonnes of info on people's Stag10 builds but one thing I haven't really come across ... is there any rule of thumb in sizing a handguard for a particular barrel length?

I've got a 20" barrel with an adjustable gas block for a Stag10 build and now am looking for a handguard. I'm interested in keeping weight down. I agree that a 7" handguard with a 20" barrel may look a bit goofy; however, I'll take goofy over a 18" 20oz handguard. My initial thoughts are to ensure it's long enough to cover the gas block but not so long that it's difficult to adjust.
- Is there a good happy medium?
- Are there other considerations to keep in mind?
- M-LOK vs KeyMod? (I have no pre-existing hardware)

The end goal of this Stag build is for hunting. I intend on using conventional optics (Vortex/Leupold 3-9x ~ 4-12x or there about) and don't intend on hanging a bunch of stuff off the rifle. Iron sites: yes - and probably a bipod.

Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks!

A 13" handguard will just barely cover the entire gas block at the rifle length gas position (12"). A 12.5" handguard will leave most of the block exposed but protect the gas tube. can look great and be lightweight.

Here's a faxon 20" pencil with an MI 15" guard. The gas block is an ajustable SLR one, and I can still adjust it from the front without removing anything.
