Stag 10 build and range review

As far as a hunting rig goes I had a 6.5 Creed I put a 3.6-18x44 Leupold in a Spuhr mount on. It wasn't cheap but I got the reticle and features I wanted. Not much heavier than most LPVO with mount and it's more capable. I had another in .308 with a Razor HDII 1-6 and while I appreciate that optic for what it is my typical shots benefit from more scope. Too bad all my STAGS went away before the ban.

If we get a new government for Christmas and we end up being able to use our toys again …

What optics have you folks found to suit your Stag 10s? Mine has never fired a shot. I bought it intending to be able hit gongs out to 600m but with the primary purpose being a handy rifle for deer. I was thinking a 1-4 or a 1-6 or even a Trijicon. Something clear with a bit of magnification but I don’t want to add much weight to what’s already a hefty rifle.
I have a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x FFP with backup Holosun 515CU. Made the platform a little heavy though.

I went with a Burris E1 4.5-14x42mm, The idea was for a general purpose rifle that could target shoot or be used for tactical shooting with the possibility of maybe hunting. I didn’t want a lot of weight or bulk but needed a decent magnification range plus parralax for target shooting. It was on sale at the time. Decent glass, drop down ballistic reticle and these ones had parralax adjustment ( most of the E1 scopes don’t). Currently I’ve seen them for $350.

To keep weight down, shorter handguard and Sopmod stock. Still not a super light rifle but not heavy either. The mount I used is also a quick release. Using regular lighter rings could shave a little off. I was very happy with how it turned out, handled and shot. But it was an all purpose rifle. So there are compromises.

I had mine set up with an Elcan 1-3-9. Great glass. It wasn't light, but I found that having more weight a bit farther back balanced the whole rifle better anyway. Rifle and optic together were a hair over 10 pounds, plus the bipod, plus a loaded mag...

I really liked the 1x magnification for close-up, and the 9x for distance. Funny enough, it spent most of its time at the 3x setting.

Man does it ever feel like very long time ago in an entirely different universe these days... loved the Stag in 6.5 I had before the bans, would be my first purchase if things get saner after the election (not holding my breath). I ran a Bushy Elite LRTSi 3-12 and an offset red dot on it, routinely shot it out to 1000+ and hunted with it. Was surprisingly accurate as well, had an IBI pipe on it and shot multiple 1/2 moa 5rnd groups. Was a great "do everything" kinda setup.
