Hello everyone. Picked up a lefty stag 10. Wanted the enhanced version but none were in stock at the time. Gunsmiths in my area are not taking any walk-ins due to covid-19. Don’t want to mess around and ruin the rifle. Got a Tipton gun vise and have an armorers wrench at my disposal. Difficult to remove the birdcage and replace it with a vg6 brake?

If it was me and I’d put the barrel in between 2 blocks of hard wood and clamp the barrel in your vise. Flash hider shouldn’t be in too tight. See YouTube for barrel vise.

Doesn’t seem like it’s welded on. Just paranoid. Just crank counter clockwise with the barrel in the vise?

Two blocks of hardwood with a V cut in either piece and sandwich the barrel in between the two. I'd use a proper fitting wrench if it were me and not the chicom one from Tipton.

Ok. I get the wood in the vise part. Rifle barrel goes in between that. The hole still is confusing me. I see on YouTube some videos regarding flash hider removal but wanted to see if the stag is any different.

If you click the link I posted above and scroll down it will explain everything with pictures, link is a little weird wont let me scroll down till I click wait a then it scrolls down

If you just use 2 pieces of flat wood you only have 2 very small points of contact on the barrel, it will want to turn and rotate out of the vise blocks. When you cut a hole (2 half circles) into or even a "V" cut into each block it will have much more contact on the barrel and will prevent it from rotating out of the blocks

They even make vise blocks with a V cut into them already, but you can make them yourself easily with hand tools

Stag 10 is no different then an AR15 other then a larger thread size for muzzle devices, other then the obvious larger size threading its the same in terms of install and removal

I’ve sat on a rifle receiver on a bench and used my ass as a “vice” to swap out an A2 to some other device that used a crush washer, in a pinch of course. They aren’t torqued on very tight and can be loosened with something as basic as a crescent wrench.

If you’re worried about marring, wrap the muzzle device wrench flats with a little bit of electrical tape.
