I'm thinking of getting a Stag 10. I'd like to use it for hunting, so am not interested in the 14 pound heavy barrel iteration. Does the light barrel still shoot well if given proper time to cool?

Thanks!

I'll put this simply. You're not going to kill the lightest of weight barrels, using 5 or 10 round mags.
That and I highly doubt you're just going to blast 200 rounds of 308 in rapid succession, as fast as you can, just for ####s and giggs.

The 308 factory barrel weights 3lbs, shoots great. I don't think even the 24" 6.5 model weighs 14lbs!

I just got my stag 10 today and the barrel looks like a medium to heavy contour up to the gas block. Then it’s smaller. Mine feels light when shouldering it and not front heavy at all but I also lift large weights in the gym lol

Heavy barrels are built to shoot multiple rounds consistently.

You don't do that when you're hunting. I've never fired more than two rounds on game... and that coyote had it coming!

My Tikka T3 with a sporter barrel will put the same cold bore shot into a 1/2 MOA target if I give it half an hour between shots. My 24" DPMS bull barrel will put 178 grains of copper into a nice little group 10 shots in a row...

My rifle setup with 2.5-10 scope, precision rings and the factory heavy barrel only comes in at 10.8 lbs unloaded.

For my uses a quality lightweight barrel all day long.

I had mine out last night shooting paper at 100 yards, with the 2.4 lb Criterion lightweight 18.5" barrel and it shot easy sub-MOA with some of the loads. Hirtenberger surplus was shooting 1.5 MOA in 5 round groups, it's the most accurate semi-auto rifle I've ever had shooting Hirt. Got the barrel warm with some pistol mag dumps and no appreciable change in accuracy. Gun is 7 lbs 3 oz naked, 8 lbs 4 oz with the 1.5-8X Vortex Razor HD Light Hunter and Aeroprecision mount.

Beautiful set-up!

Your barre doesn’t look light weight in the photo lol. I really like my stag mlok handguard but I’m wondering if your slr handguard is slimmer in the hand. The jp sig series is probably thicker than my stag mlok.

The SLR's are very slim and it's possible that it wouldn't even fit over some of the bigger gas blocks, this SLR is also a 13.5" so my GB just sticks out past it for easy access to the adjustment key. But the barrel is also a bit shorter and thicker than the Faxon Pencil and Gunner 20" barrels. This one maintains just under the 0.75" GB profile to the end of the barrel. Personally I prefer the Criterion to the Faxon for quality and shorter length but I wouldn't hesitate to run either.

Ya I like the barrel you have. If I ever change mine out I think it will be the Fulton with the same muzzle brake you have whatever brand it is. There’s only a small selection of handguards that stand out to me lookswise. Pretty happy with mine. I want those grip thingies tho to add some more grip to my forend
