Stag Arms - Stag-10 Torque Settings:

I received a reply from Stag Arms on the torque settings for the Stag-10.

1. If you are having problems with gas block screws loosening you can apply blue Loctite to help prevent the screws from moving. They should be torqued to 25 in/lbs.

2. Handguards screws should be torqued to approximately 25 in/lbs.

3. Barrel nuts should be torqued to 65 ft/lbs.(Note the change to foot pounds.)

You might want to bold the "inch" part.. some people my skim thru and just read the numbers and default to "foot*lbs"

I've often wondered if you should follow rifle manufacturer torque specs, or hand guard manufacturer torque specs. Midwest recommends 40 ft/lbs (if I remember correctly). Which should you follow? Does the type of barrel nut dictate how tight it should be?

Took 1 shim and 40ft/lbs to set it up right

Torque settings are usually fairly similar for screwing something made of steel in aluminum, or something steel/titanium over aluminum. In this case, 35-40ft*lbs sounds about right.

Before I emailed Stag Arms I looked for info on the web and found people and manufactures stating/suggesting anything from 35 ftlbs up to 85 ftlbs for barrel nuts alone. How it aligns things as well as locks together seems to be different for every combination of parts. Most seem to "like" between 40 - 60 but say less than 35 is bad. This is why I posted the email feedback from Stag. Do what works for you. I just didn't want to go light or void warranty.

85ftlbs in with an aluminium piece? ouch!

That's only 3ftlbs less than what I torque car wheel lug nuts/bolts, and that's steel and steel.

But you're right. Dont want to go too low also. I'd just take the "generally known number" that is the lowest, and work my way up if it loosens up after a few shots.
