Ok, so I have a Stag Model 2R (big thanks to Walter@AEI) coming to me.
Well, there's so much AR hardware out there and so many opinions on here, that I though I'd pose a question for the forumites.

How would you finish this sentence:

"For your new AR, you DEFINATELY NEED.........."?

Put all your saved cash into ammo and shooting. Get good with the stock gun, then add parts as needed.
The AR system is very user friendly and extras can add up quickly. Choose aftermarket stuff wisely. It really comes down to what you want to use it for. We can't use them for home defense, so target shooting is our only choice. I have alot of add ons for mine, but I use them on my work gun, so it kinda' justifies the purchase. That's what I tell my wife anyway.:D
Ammo and training first, Gucchi stuff later.
YMMV,
Hoddie

Jesus, no wonder Walter was so busy... I got a lefty Stag off him this week as well.. LOL

To answer you question...

"For your new AR, you DEFINATELY NEED.........."?

The correct answer is... TO GET SOME ROUNDS DOWN RANGE....

THEN, decide what tickles your fancy...........

I agree with these guys. Get mags (10 rounders) and ammo.

If you HAVE to get anything else right off get a Magpul pistol grip for it.

you look like a tool when you spend more money on the whizz bang gidgets than the gun and can't hit the wall of a barn from the inside.

buy ammo and mags. learn to shoot. ask other people when you see them at the range about their parts.

Kinda what I thought: Mags and Ammo.

Happily, I already have 5 mags and 1200 rds.
As for extra kit, I have had a CTR since Jan, a Full MIAD kit and an enhanced trigger guard is in the mail, a Vortex FH waiting is for it's new home and my EOTech 552 is 3/4 paid for.

When that carbine arrives, parts will be flying everywhere - it'll be like a chop shop! Speaking of chop, that barrel might not stay 16" for long...

OK, given that ammo/mags = range time and range time is all I need,
what else is recommended for a new carbine?

I don't know much about the Stag,
For my DPMS LR-308 I bought a drop in RRA2 stage trigger, and a tactical grip. This is purely a range/target gun.
I also started stock pilling ammo for it.
The rings have been ordered, and the scope selected.

Other than that, lots of practice. I'm sure I'll still look like a tool but hey, at least I can practice where there aren't a lot of people for a while :)

So... after the above, more mags and more ammo.

I am considering a gas piston retrofit eventually, to keep wear and clearning down. but that will have to wait.

There will be no tactical add ons to mine. IE I do not need a flashlight, laser etc, 8 rail forend, rails on the scope stock etc for this rifle. Some of the accesories gone wild are nuts. You practically need full auto just to lift the muzzle up to the target.

I would trade you an 11.5 wilson 1-9twist flat top upper for yours if you wanted to include the rear sight(Note I allready have 260rds through mine) So if your thinking of a chop maybe some postage would be cheaper;) Just a thought if you are thinking of going short:D But then you would want a flaming pig to go with it(Noveske KX3) Sounds like you just need a sling now!

I love AR's, have quite a few and am still looking for more.
My favorite add-ons:
Brownells 30rd mags. (pinned of coarse)
Magpul stock 6 position, love it!
Daniel Defense M4 rail with 10.5 inch barrel, a must.
Good pistol grip, there are quite a few goodies out there.
To top it off, a Leupold Mark 4 1-3x14mm. The Best.
