A shout-out to all the woodworking and/or gunsmithing nutz... Would like to stain my tired old stock BPS forearm with a totally different colour, thinking ebony. The stock is a homemade job and it never really matched the forearm, now planning to stain them at the same time. Have no issues with the stock, I wittled it myself out of use, did not stain it and just used Tru-oil on it. Plan to sand it down, ebony stain it and re-apply the Tru-oil.
The forearm however is from the factory, looks like whatever finish was on it has worn away, just the factory stain in the wood. My question is this, if I were to sand it lightly, would I be able to get that distinctive red stain out from the walnut? If I were to get it down to bare wood then a blackish stain would take and roughly match the ash stained (yes....I said ash stained
) colour. Crappy pic of the forearm below. Thanks.
