I've been debating for the last little while if it would be worth the price to trade in my kimber Classic for a Montana. I am impartial on which stock design as I like the lightweight durability of the Kevlar but love real wood as well. The big deciding factor for me is the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. I know that stainless can still rust as well, it's not 100% rust proof. How similar would a CM barrel that is cerakoted be to a stainless barrel? It would be cheaper for me to cerakote. I'm mainly concerned for a week long moose hunt this fall that will be done camping in the bush with no great way of getting the rifle out of wet damp environments for the whole week if it's rainy. I've had no problems with rusting yet on day use hunts where I can oil it at the end of the day

Hi Steve... my Arma-coated rifles have seen some horrendous elements... and aside from a 2 second mist of G96 down the barrel, Not a speck of rust. Every stainless rifle I own would see rust if I didn't oil them in those conditions. As long as the coatings are intact, you're protected.

Many guys have hunted many years with CM rifles without issue. There are 100 year old rifles without rust. So it's not like your blued rifle isn't up to the challenge. Plus there are awesome products these days that help protect the metal inside and out.

Cerakote will definitely help protect the outside of your rifle - but they won't be coating your bore - the main area for fear of rust.

I have blued rifles, coated CM rifles and stainless rifles. Stainless is by far superior to the others in corrosion resistance. I have never had a stainless rifle rust or even show signs of staining. (Even after reading story after story about stainless rusting if not cared for) I refuse to wipe my bore daily with oil while hunting season is on - I choose stainless if the option is available.
