Im wondering if anyone has ever tired to use small finishing nails instead of using the stainless steel media?

Where can I find stainless steel media in Canada?

The finishing nails will rust. Because they will have been tumbled, and thoroughly cleaned, they will flash rust (rust within seconds). Everything will be stained.

As for where to buy, search threads for stainless steel media, there are suppliers by mail order, and a manufacturer in Buffalo.

There is a Gunnut who advertizes in the for sale section under ammo section who sells SS media. Check it out.

You can buy stainless finishing nails.Got mine from Windsor Plywood in Regina. They were 1" cut them in half with sidecutters. Took forever. Work fine. Mark

I was going to try this, but haven't had a chance to head out to my local home depot to see if they have stainless finishing nails.

The stainless steel pins that you order are 40 thou x 1/4" long and there are magnetic and non-magnetic ones available. I bought the magnetic type so you can use a magnet to pick up the small devils when they want to go wandering off. Search my handle and I made up complete plans with pulley sizes and before and after pictures of old range brass that went from crap to new again.

Do the .040 pins pass thru a small primer hole?? My homemeade ones do not, so was going to order some .021 pins from Pellets llc., but if the .040 work I'll opt for the larger. Mark

Hi Guys
I had a old roll of satinless steel welding wire for mig welding that I got for for nothing (over run from a job). Tried to cut it up using sidecutters, forget it, sore wrists for a week. Then tried a air powdered nibbler, worked but not very well. Signed out a Makita hand eletric shear from work it worked great. Cut up about 4 lbs that i use in a water cooler jug, use the one with the handle molded into it as it works as an agitator then in throw it on my specially modified treadmill.

I work for a fab shop and know some guys are cutting up a lot of large dia 304 / 316 stainless steel pipe with zip cut blades, so I asked if they could save me some of the remains off the floor. Apparently theres a bag of it waiting for pickup, just havent been there recently. I will try it and let you guys know how it works.

I can't see myself trying to make SS media when for $40.00 I can purchase good proper SS media that will fit through small flash holes.

yes the pins pass through the primer hole. I say out of 200 pieces of brass maybe 5 have 2 pieces of media stuck in the hole. They are very easy to remove though

Do you guys feel that a .035" wire could do better than .040"? and would 3/16" length get stuck less than 1/4" ? essentially I've been thinking of getting some for myself for sometime, but now I'm considering manufacturing it here in Canada if the demand is there.
