I am looking at getting a new .300 rifle in S/S. I was looking at the Remington 700 and they post on their site that it is 416 Stainless.
Does anybody know what type of S/S other companys use ? Tikka, Winchester dont seem to have it on their site.

Thanks.

I've had a stainless/walnut Sako on order for 10 months now (in 300 win cal). I'm not a fan of tupperware at all. The look of stainless with nice wood just says style. And nicks, scratches give a gun history, in my view.

I'm really surprised its not more popular. My Marlin 1895GS with Leupold is sweet.

Speaking for myself, I think a lot of us prefer the blued finish for appearance. I can appreciate the advantages of stainless, especially after a couple of very wet hunts this year, but I'm kind of surprised manufacturers don't offer blue or painted (armacoat or similar) stainless rifles. Pretty sure it was Rem that used to have some models in blued stainless.

Bluing does not work well on stainless, though other coatings do.However these coatings can be expensive and many people would rather have a bead blasted stainless finish than pay the extra cost.Personally,I buy my guns to shoot not to look at,so appearance is not worth extra cost to me.
