Little question for you guys,

Is there any difference between the two in matter of resistance and durability. Wich one make the stronger action and/or barrel. I know that s/s by definition is more corrosion resistant but as general toughness, wich one is better???

Thanks

As far as actions and barrels go, I believe chrome moly is stronger and stainless barrels last longer.

I prefer stainless barrels as they do machine better and are easier on tools. The only other advantages I see is that due to the smoother interior, they tend to shoot better, at least the cut rifled barrels do and there is not the need to spend further money having the barrel blued or treated to prevent rusting.
Stainless does oxidize however, it is just not as noticeable as brown rust on a blued or silver barrel.

416 type stainless is not a galling type of stainless steel.
Type 410 stainless, (properly heat-treated), would equal 4140 or 4130 alloy in strength and durability, but much more expensive to produce. Barrels made from 416 and left in the unhardened condition cannot possibly last as long as barrels made from chromium-molybdenum steels.
