Stampings on Smith & Wesson 17-4

Just looking at some of the markings on a 17-4 and am wondering what they represent. Any one have any ideas?

Thanks for the information. So would it have been exported to Germany when new, purchased and then wondered in to Canada at some point?

Well wether it went there from new or when it was used it was there. Guns imported into that country have to be proofed or tested to make sure it is safe for the owner to use or safe to be sold. A lot of countries to the same. It means nothing except to die hard collectors as it reduces the value of the gun to them as it has been altered from the way it was made in the first place.

Yes it was brought back to Canada from Germany, most likely by somebody that was over there in the military. I was in Lahr and the Rod and Gun Club there sold tons of handguns and rifles most of which were suplied by Frankonia (http://www.frankonia.de/) which is a chain of German hunting and shooting stores.
