Any difference in the inletting between a standard and accutrigger action? I want to get an accutrigger model and stick it in my pre-accutrigger stock and wondering if there will be any fitting problems.

You will need to inlet just a bit under the rear tang for the different trigger mech. All new stocks are inletted for accutriggers whether they have them or not.

Cheers

Is it only the top of the receiver that is different, flat vs. round?

Sadly, no. The Accutrigger mounts different so a Sharp Shooter Supply competition trigger is used instead.

Also, and this kills me, when Savage redesigned their detatchable mag system in 2005, they moved the front action screw hole slightly forward to accomodate the mag release mech.

The perfect Savage action to build on is a Stevens. Long, round top and all the parts are already out there. On the other hand, buying a stock 10FP Choate or McMillan will be cheaper, faster and damn near as good as a full custom.
