Hey folks sure this has been discussed a bunch but just wondering about peoples opinions. I am looking for new or used 308 for 500-1000m. I am closely eyeing cz 557 varmint/ tikka t3x varmint. I have also considered rem 500 milsurp but for some reason more drawn to others. Any other suggestions or opinions? Max price 1500

Im sure they are good but no super pretty
That 44 is almost twice what they are actually worth.
I know because I have shot and bought and sold them for years.
Not too mention you would have too add a rail and scope unless you wanted too shoot Palma match with it.
The Zastava is a much better deal
A guy can get into the long range game with a used Savage for cheap and it will be very accurate.

Check for a used TR rifle. Deals are our there. I picked up a Cg inch for 1000, a musgrave with brux barrel and millenium trigger for 1000.

They will be set up for 155gr. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. We sling shoot to 1000yds with a 155gr bullet.

A few questions :

A) Would it be for paper targets or hunting ?

B) How much money do you have for a scope & mount ? , these can easily cost 500-700 $ for a used 5-20 with rings.

C) .308 is nice but maybe you should give 6.5 creedmore a look, it is superior to .308 for long range shooting

D) IMO probably the best sub MOA rifle value would be rifles based on the Howa 1500 action. they are extremely accurate for the price and you could probably get one used+ a usedvortex 5-20 or 4-10 , good quality rings, and a couple of boxes of Federal Gold medal ammo for 1 500 $.

Many fine options and suggestions. My list would include the Tikka t3x varmint, Remington 5R mil-spec. That new 783 varmint Mystic posted would be on it too. I'm not a savage guy but they shoot great too.

I wouldn't get too hung up in 6.5 creedmoor. We're just coming out of a big backlog of reloading components. It was getting difficult to find match bullets for a while. 308 match ammo and components are plentiful.

Get a rem 700 in 308, bed the stock and load up some 178gr bullets over 45.6 gr of varget and you'll be lacing steel out to 1300m. thats what I did and thats what I do. this LR thing gets way over complicated. Were not landing a man on the moon here bfs

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I am leaning alot towards cz 557 varmint bc i own a range and it is beautiful. To make matters complicated they offer synthetic in 20" and walnut in 26.5"....not that i plan on setting any world records but im guessing that extra length would add alot to accuracy?

Not really, I have three friends who shoot out to 1K with me with 20" Remingtons in 308, no sweat!
If you can find a deal on a used gun with a 20MOA rail already installed, that would be good as well.
